Hi Class!
Today I saw some great work on our new literary essay unit. You worked hard at trying to generate original thoughts about what you are reading. Tonight, you are asked to continue that work in your head, focusing on what you are reading, noticing the little details that may go unnoticed, and generating your thoughts about these details.
We talked about how wondering about character's motivations, actions, thoughts and feelings can help us to understand our characters. It can also help us to think deeper about our characters.
Share with me your thoughts so far with this process. How is this going with your own independent reading? Remember to explain yourself fully, with at least 5 sentences, check your grammar and spelling before sending off your post......Happy Reading!

I think reading deeper goes well with my reading. Like I said at our group meeting, I noticed that JK Rowling writes "er" in her books. She writes that when she wants it to seem like there is an akward silence. I think it is a good way to fill a silence, but I think she might use it a little too much. Others might disagree with me, but guess what? I CAN VOICE MY OWN OPINION SO DON'T BUG ME!!! Sorry for getting crazy like that. I get a little wacky sometimes ( as you all know). Back to the subject. I read on the bus so, when I'm reading on the ride home, I'll pay extra close attention to reading deeper. It makes me realize things in my book that I've never noticed before. During reading time today I had even MORE fun reading because I thought more about what was happening and it made my story that much more fun. I just don 't like having to WRITE down my deeper-reading. I personally think it takes away from the book because you have to stop and write. That's just my opinion, though. Gotta boogie so adios!!!

I think this literary essay is comeing out really good. I think it is really easy. I also think it does not matter what your opinion is becuse it is just your opinion and there is no right or wrong answer. If wanted to say somethink like for fire flys you could say like well this is my opinion (he was running so fast he almost fell down the stairs but he did not care anything to get that jar and go running outside just to catch some fire flys.) Really I think it does not matter what your opinion is it is just what you think. I also really have to say I think this is working out really good for alot of people but im not actully vrey sure but I think that everone is doing an awesome job at this I really do.
I am reading The Titan's Curse by Rick Riordan. Percy Jackson is one of the characters. Percy is a fourteen year-old boy in this story, that is a half blood. A half blood means that your father or mother was a Greek god or goddess. The other parent is a mortal. Knowing that Percy is a half blood helps to understand his special power with water.
Another character is Nico di Angelo. He is ten years old. He has a sister named Bianca. They are orphans and Percy found them at a military school in Maine. Nico has not yet realized that he is a half blood. He will find out later in the book.

I am wondering why Egglintine has brought Primrose to the mission? Usually, Egglintine is shy and doesn't take risks. So why is she bringing Primrose to the mission? I wonder if she had to much to drink?
I think the process of thinking deeper about characters was easy. I think when we were writing about the scenes in our heads was also easy.

It is going great in my book.My book is Percy Jackson and the Olympians The Lightning Thief and it is about this boy who has just lost his mother by some creature.Then after that he arrive in a strange camp that he does not understand.Then he is confused with some people and the counselors.Also he did not know that his friend was actually a ancient creature.

I have noticed even though some books may explain the setting and other facts you can picture somthing different.
Example:
A book says, "he was sitting on the sidewalk across the street" I can still picure him on a staircase outside a door in the city.
I always think about the picture in my head.
In books that I have read there is a picture of the main character on the cover. Most of the time the book describes the character in a different way than they look on the cover. I sometimes get confused because the picture in my head is different. It is confusing.
I noticed that the book that I am reading is set up like a diary (the girl is writing in the diary for her brother Edward to read somday) and it is easier to picture thing in your head that way. The reason is because when people write to other people or write to themselves they tend to be discripitive.

It has really change the way I read because I actualy think really hard about what I'm reading about. I also wonder why the author didn't write like how the carchter was running (for example) like were the breathing heavly while running or something.I also think that that might be why people didn't like The Lighting thief movie because maybe what you were thinking in your head didn't look like in the movie.Mrs. Simonds that would be cool if they had a Schoolhouse Rock on thinking deeper in what you're reading about.I also think that this is very cool that you are teaching us this.

It's so easy!!!!!!! I already do that with my reading in my head but when we write it down...... I get stuck!! It's so hard putting a picture into words!!! It gets really hard and then it doesn't come out right and then it doesn't make sense at all! So its 10,000,000% yes to doing it in my head and 0% yes to write it down. But I still think reading is the best!!!

I think it's going well. It is sort of slower then I imagined . I'm not as far as I execpted. I think if somthing is, well if a "influneing" sentence appers well I sort of stop reading. I think that it would be boring if we did not think of the things that come to mind. Henro the King
Hows it going with jolly old independent reading? When your reading the best books in the world, it has to go good! Redwall is the best series ever in the history of all books! I challenge some people to read the first book in the series called "Redwall"(big surprise!) It may not be exciting in the first couple of pages, but wait untill the action comes and you'll love it! If I need back up on this just ask Alex C., when he goes crazy talking about it you'll know they're good books. I think just describing what you picture in your head while your reading the book is really easy. What we did on the 3oth and 31st was a lot harder to do than just describing the picture in your head. Back to talking about Redwall, I think these are good books for everyone because it has a mix of different things in it. King Camalot
I just finished Eclipse for the 2nd time and I'm reading Trouble. I'm really glad I picked it! So far it has been really good!! The main character is Henry. He is nice and he really likes and looks up to his brother, he is also caring. I wonder what will happen next....... I finished the newest Warriors book so now I have to wait like 7 months until the next one comes out!!!! NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!! I going to die waiting!! I can't wait until we go to the vernal pool again! It was so fun the last time we went! Ya, I know I go off topic A LOT. :)

It has made my indepent reading a lot better because usuially I don't pay too much attention to the main charecter actions.Like say the charector ran to the store I didn't emagion as much stuff in my head.I Millon Shades of Gray is a great book Mrs.Simonds.It is lots of fun to imagne what the world was like back then.I( have also thought a lotmore a bout their thoughs like Percy hates Luke why does he hate Luke ? That is what I think of.

I love my book! It is called "The Ersatz Elevator"! I like this book it is great! When I read it I have a picture in my head of what is going on. It's like a movie!!! It has helped my indepent reading a lot. Like say Percy Jackson ran to the store I would ask myself how did he run ? Did he sprint,jog or skip.I think it has been a ton of fun.Mrs. Simonds did you sign the Last Oliypian book back in ?? If not it's on your desk. Mrs. Simonds I CAN'T wait til are field trip back to the vernal pool.

I think reading deeper is going well and it is really really fun in a way. In my book this is going well because my book doesn't have a ton of detail so I can really think of good things. I think this process will zip by, because it is just extending what you think and I think that will easy for most people. i think this should be called thinking deeper because you're thinking about what you think, see? Theres a lot of thinks in there!! I love reading deeper because you can imagine things and make them up, about what you thinks happening.

I think "reading deeper" is making me understand my book more. It makes me see what is happening instead of just following the author's words. My author is different than Julia's. He doesn't write "er" he just writes "then there was an awkard silence." I think if we didn't read as deep as we do then the book wouldn't make any sense. I wish my former teachers brought up reading deeper. Henro the beast
I think it is kind of fun! I cant wait to see how the essays come out! I like doing it with my own independent reading, because I am reading a whole series and I'm on book 10 so I know the characters very well. I agree with Julia, that reading deeply makes me notice things I have never noticed. I think it is cool because there is no right or wrong answer, because it is your opinion of the characters. Talking about reading deeply is really good because I like getting to know the characters better.

I have been reading Fire Girl a lot and am really focusing on reading deeply since it is my book group book. I love the book Fire girl so far! I am on about chapter 11 (Gianna called me and told me she finished!) and I am really hooked! I can't wait to read more tonight! I think I will read one of the other book group books after I am done with A Series of Unfortunate Events (14 books in the series, and I'm on book 10 so it wont be long!).

I think that when we had to write about our characters it wasn't as easy as doing it in our heads. The charecter in my books name is Moon. He's reckless,brave,determined,can live off the land and is stubborn. Moon is also an orphan. His mom died while he was a baby. His dad died from an accident. (I can't tell you though!!) Well I read really deeply about characters in my independent book. Usually when i'm reading i'll stop to think about the characters. In my group book, March toward the Thunder, it can be really confusing. I think its because its a third person book. I barely read Third person books. First person books are usually pretty easy to read and understand the story.
