Witches

Hello Smelly Children!
I am having so much fun sharing one of my favorite books with you.  I know, I know....I have a lot of favorite books........what can I say? I do so love Roald Dahl though, and especially like reading "Witches" this time of year.
I want to hear your thoughts on the story so far.

Discussion Points:

1.  How were you feeling about the book before we started it? Do you feel different now that we have read a few chapters?  How so?

2.  What other Roald Dahl books have you read or know the stories to? What are your favorites? Have you read them or seen the movies perhaps?

3. What genre would you use to describe this book?

Happy Reading tonight.....watch out for women with gloves and blue spit.....:)

Aloha Mrs. Simonds
Before we started the book I was really excited because my sister said it is a really good book. I feel don't
Different because I know it is not true even though it said it is not a fairy tale but I still know it not true. Once I finish my book I want to read the BFG because my sister said it is one of her favorite books. This is my first Roald Dahl book so I am really excited. I would describe this book fantasy because it has witches, blue spit, and pretty ladies that are witches.

Hi Mrs. Simonds
1. Before we started it I felt that it would be less scary. Also I thought it would be like a book for a smaller child. I thought that because of the cover, it looked more childish, then I remembered, never judge a book by it's cover.
2. I don't think I have ever have read a Roald Dahl book or seen a movie.
3. The genre that I would best describe the book Witches as, would be mystery or fiction.

Wil Masterson!!!!!!!

HI MRS.SIMONDS
1)At first I didn't really want to read "The Witches" because I was already into my other book "Liar and Spy." After we read the first chapter I really wanted to read the next.
2)I have only read one Roald Dahl book,"Fantastic Mr. Fox" In second or first grade. After I finish "Liar and Spy" I plan to read more.
3)I think that the genre of this book is a fantasy because things that happen in this book cannot happen in real life.

Dear Mrs.Simonds,

I have been feeling really excited about this book. I have never read ROALD DAHI before and this is a really good book! I really want to read the next chapter! I have felt kind of scared of this book. Mrs.Simonds are you a witch? I hope the boy doesn't get his thumb cut of like his Grand mamma! I feel sort of different from the beginning. In the beginning of the book the author talked about real witches. Now in the book, the boy just encountered a witch. I have never read a Roald DAHI book before, but I have seen the movie Matilda! I can not believe this! The girl who plays Matilda is named Mara Elizabeth Wilson! My first name is Mara and my middle name is Elizabeth! Mara Wilson was born on July 24 1987. My most favorite book is The Witches and my favorite movie Matilda. This book is probably a fantasy because it has "Real Witches". I will watch out for women with glove and blue spit. I am never going to take a shower again so a witch will not smell me!

1000% Mara!

Hi Mrs. S
I felt kind of nervous about starting the book because the cover was kind of wired, and creepy.
Now I feel that the book was going to be only about one witch but it's about witches that make kids disappear.
I have never read a Roald Dahl book or seen any of the movies but I've heard there really good.
I would describe this book as a fiction because witches do not exist.

Hi Mrs. Simonds and Wil Masterson,

I would like to comment Wil Mastersons. I think on number 1 I agree with Wil, the cover is kind of childish ha,ha,ha. On number 2 I do not agree with Wil. I dis- agree with Wil because I do not believe him that he never saw Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. But I believe he never read a book by Roald Dahl. On number 3 I dis-agree with will. I dis-agree with Wil because witches are Fantasy. so the book is Fantasy.

Dear Mrs. Simonds,
I thought the book was going to be a lot different, but I like it. I wonder why his grandmother had lost one thumb? The books I've read by Rauld Dahl are, Charlie and the Chocolate factory, Charlie and the Glass Elevator, James and the Giant Peach, and Fantastic Mr.Fox. I've read a lot more but I don't remember the titles. I think this book is a fiction, adventure, and fantasy. I LOVE THIS BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!

hi Mrs.Simonds,
I didn't really think anything before we started because i have read the book like 8 times. I have read all the Roald Dahl books. My favorite one is "George and the Marvelous Medicine". I have seen the movie "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" and the play and read the book. I think the genre of this book is probably action, fiction, and maybe a little bit adventure. Because they are trying to capture a witch, I mean everyone is.
BEST BOOK EVER! WHOOHOO!!!!!:)

Hi Mrs. S, (from Sydney no space below)
Before we started the book, I did not think that I would like it, I guess that is because I have never read a Roald Dahl book before. But now that we started it I really like it. That is probably because it is sort of creepy and sometimes I like creepy!
Like I said before I have never read a book by Roald Dahl,(strage I know!) But now I wish that I had.
I would discibe this genre as fiction or maybe a little mystery.

I thought this book would be ok, but considering I have a Roald Dahl book that I've never read, is suspious. I feel different but the chapters aren't to long and I want to read more independently.

I do have the Roald Dahl book the Magic Finger, but as you know I've never read it.

The genre of this book is "fiction," and if the boy's grandmamma says witches are real in the real World, I bet you she would be hallucinating!

At first I didn't want to read witches either. I have never read a Roald Dahl book before and I didn't plan to, but just like you said "never judge a book by its cover." I also agree with the genres you chose (mystery and fiction.)

HI Sophia
Wow 8 times, I have never even read the witches before. Is the Witches your favorite Roald Dahl book. What is the best part. I can't wait to read on. I agree with you when you said that the book is a fiction. Even though I didn't write it in my post.

Hola Mrs. Simons,
At first when we started this book the cover really didn't intrigue me, but now that we are a few chapters into the book, I love it!!! I also love the plot.
I haven't read any other books by Roald Dahl but ny I have the book "James and the Giant Peach," I would love to read it. I haven't seen any of the movies either, I actually never knew that there were movies of the books he wrote.
I would descibe this books genre as fantasy, because whitches aren't really real. At least I don't think so???
(P.S. look out for women in gloves, that look like they have a wig on, that have strangely big nose-holes and have blue spit(ew).

I agree with grace I thought this book would be scary but it is not to scary now that you read the book.
I can't believe that the grandson got turned in to a mouse.
I think it was smart of the grandmother to put him in to the sock and then roll him down on to th head witches balcony.

Konichiwa Mrs.Simonds!,

I would like to say thank you to Grace for complementing on my entry. I still can not believe that Matilda has my first and middle name. By the way Grace that is not how you spell Rufus. I went behind my house into the graveyard and saw that Rufus was spelled Rufus. I also saw some other weird names like Ebenezer. I saw a very sad grave. It was a women and her children that had all died probably from a sickness or a disease.

To Wil,

You probably are right because I thought this book looked little-kiddish. You actually are right cause my mom gave me the Magic Finger in 2nd grade.

I also have never done any Roald Dahl stuff. Never read a book, never seen a movie from him.

This book is a good fiction book!

Dear Sophia,
Again I didn't know that Roald Dahl Wrote the book 'Charlie and the Choclate Factory'. Well I saw it on the table of Roald Dahl books but I really never made the conection that it was actually by him. But the qustion that I have is which one came out first, the movie 'Charlie and the Choclate Factory' or the book version???
You also said that 'George and the Marvolous Medicine', is it any good? Who would you recomend it to???
You read 'The Witches' 8 TIMES, when we all read it was it boring because you what was going to happen???
~BRIANNA

Dear Wil,
When we started I too thought it would be a book for a younger kid. The night that we had to finish it I had my brother read a sentence or two but he didn't have any trouble reading it at all (he's in 3rd garde), but I still loved it!!! Also the cover, when I first got the book, it looked a little young. I think it's Fiction. HAPPY READING!!!

Hi Brianna,
I actually would reccomend "George And The Marvalous Medicine" for you but I do think it was a little bit of a holiday/easy book for me. The book is about a boy who stays with his grandmother during the day. He hates his grandmother. So one day he goes out into their farm and makes a medicine. I am not going to tell you what happens next but it is exciting.

Dear Lucy,

I agree with you . I love this book too! Even though I have never read one of Roald Dahl's books, I now love the series! I love the way how he describes the book as if it was non fiction=True. I really want to read Matilda although I have already seen the movie. By the way the movie is great! I hope we get to read another one of Roald Dahl's books!

Dear Emma,

I agree with you that The Witches is fantasy too. WOW! Your sister gives you a lot of advice about books! What does BFG stand for? Emma this is also my first Roald Dahl book. It is so good! Maybe if you tell me what BFG is I could read the back and see if it was interesting! I hope that you like your book right now! DO NOT QUIT IT! (unless it is really boring and you are just not interested in it)
