101 Band Shell Boulevard

In the pages we read today, the story ended with Maniac painting the number "101" outside the equipment room where he had been staying.
In class, we talked about "turning points" in books, and how there is usually a place where something happens, and it turns, or changes the direction the story is going.

Discussion Points;
1.  When Maniac paints the address number outside the equipment room, how do you think this could be described as a "turning point" in the story? How do you think this changes, or turns the story in a different direction?
2.  What events led up to this turning point?
3. Grayson and Maniac had a certain type of relationship a few chapters back, and this relationship has changed recently.  Describe how their relationship was in the beginning, and how it is at this point in the story.

Please be sure to discuss all three discussion points.  Edit your work before sending it off, looking especially at capitals at the beginning of your sentences and punctuation at the end.

Hi Mrs.Simonds,
I think it changes the story because that means Maniac will actually stay and have a address again and that Grayson will take care of him because he can't just ditch Maniac because he is taking care of him.I think the events that lead up to this turning point in the story were maniac started living at the baseball equipment shack and then Grayson came and he started taking care of Maniac.I think in the beginning Maniac didn't really trust Grayson but now he trusts him and they are great friends. I have one question what will happen when baseball season comes around will they kick Maniac out or will he go live with Grayson.

Hi Mrs. Simonds,

I think that when Maniac wrote 101 on the equipment room door that was a turning moment because he wrote that it is like he new home because him and Grayson are really close at this part of the story. The evens that lead up to this turning point was that Maniac thought Grayson how to read and they had a party. Grayson also let Maniac stay with him and he got him a lot of presents. Their relation ship has chanced because in the beginning of part two Jeffrey had one pair of clothes and at the point of the book we are at now Jeffrey has every thing he wanted a toaster a lot of book and a lot of clothes and more.

Hi mrs. Simonds

1. I think Maniac thinks he will live in that apartment for the rest of his life because he painted the address on the house. I also think Grayson will be a secondary character for the rest of the book.

2. The events to the turning point were Grayson found him at the zoo and when he brought Maniac to the baseball place and then when they turned to really good friends and then they turned out to be living in the same apartment.

3. Maniac and Grayson realationship has changed from them being really good friends to be having Thankesgiving together and living in the same apartment.

dear mrs simonds
well I think it churns the story in a new direction because we have not found out why he has painted the 101 outside the equipment room and it makes me feel like oh my gosh whats going to hapen next.the events that have led up too this event are maniak meeting grayson, leving the beels, the cobras fowing maniak intill he left town.i can not think of the relation ship that maniak and grayson had and I need to find out fast.sorry about that.
matt
P.S i must eat lunch with boon.MUST!

Hi Mrs. S,

I think that the turning point is, Maniac finally has his own address not someone else's like the Beil's. It changed the story because he has a place to call his home.
The events that led up to the turning point are, well first Greyson found Maniac and got the twich in his head. Maniac tought Greyson how to read. They had Thanksgivng together and agreed it was the best ever.
In the begining Greyson is not to sure about Maniac, and Manic is not to sure about Greyson. But now Maniac is practicly the son Greyson never had!

Hi Mrs.S
I think it could be the turning point in the story because Maniac has found a new place to live and painted his new adress on the outside of the equipment room.
The events that lead up to the turning point are Maniac untying the big not and staying in the zoo.
I think that their friendship at the beginning was not as good as it is now because Grayson might stay with Maniac at 101 band shell boulevard

hola Mrs. Simonds,
The relationship was small. by that I mean, it wasn't, a relationship that was like, "oh, ive seen you for 3 year" type of thing.Just a "get to know each other" thing.
The relationship now, is, like a "father and son"relationship. So its a big relationship.
the turning point is,that Jeffery finds a home. the events are, Jeffery writes 101 for an adress and he eats a large dinner.

Dear Mrs. Simonds,
1.He decides that he has a home now. He hasn't had one in a while. I think that he is going to be happier.
2. He has had a snack with Greyson, he got lots of stuff from Greyson, and he got to know Greyson even more.
3. In the beginning Greyson gave him a lemon crimpit. Now he is giving him a bed, a refrigerator
and a bunch of other nice stuff.

i think this is a turning point because he thinks he finally has a home so now he wont keep running. first grayson was just giving maniac a home now both grayson and maniac live there. they at first just were aquantentses now they are almost family. grayson just kept on giving maniac stuff till the equitment room is now like a home to them both even though grayson already has a home

Dear Sophia,
I agree with what you said but I wish that I added more details like you did. I am also wondering the answer to your question too my answer is if they do kick him out I bet Grayson would have Maniac stay with him if it did happen. I was sad when Grayson died because Maniac would be really miss him and he would have know where to stay.

sophia,

I think Maniac feels really good to have made a new friend (and possibly a parent), so writing an adress, not an adress on Sickimore, but his and Grayson's, must feel like a new begining.

Everything led up to this, starting from being taken from the buffalo pen, to when Maniac teachs Grayson to read.

How they react to eachother has changed a lot. Grayson has gotten him all this stuff, and it feels as if he really is Maniac's dad.

To WILL MACDONALD,

I know that Grayson sadly has died, but do you think Maniac would of stayed when Grayson eventually died? Or did you not look at that possibly, cause I certainly didn't.

I agree with you because in the beginning he just had one pair of clothes and now he has everything he wanted.
I also agree with you about how when he wrote 101 on the door it was a turning point.
You did a really good job!

The turning point in this book is when start living together Maniac and Greyson started living together. Then when Maniac paints 101 on the door to the equipment room it really starts Maniac and Greyson's family. It really finishs their 'home' off, gives it the finishing touch.
The events leading up to this are, Greyson finds Maniac in the buffulo pen, then Maniac and Greyson build up their relationship over the period of 3-4 months, then Maniac and Greyson start to live together, then Maniac and Greyson start their 'family' that lives in the equipment room.
In the begining Maniac and Greyson's relatioship is a little acward, and they don't really make a point to be caring to one another. But now they know they're very lucky to have one another.

I agree with what you think is the turning point. Also, I agree when you said that Greyson is taking care of Maniac and protecting him. Plus, I agree that Maniac and Greyson have started trusing eachother a whole lot more.

Hi Mrs. Simonds,
I think that when maniac wrote 101 on the equipment room door that it was a turning moment because Maniac finally has his own address not someone else's like Amanda's and her family. It changed the story because he has a place to call his home.
The events that led up to the turning point are, well first Greyson found Maniac and he brought him into the equipment room because he was hurt
After he was better Greyson is not to sure about Maniac, and wasn't the nicest to Maniac But through out time they became friends played baseball together ate together and got to be such good friends Greyson moved in so maniac needed A address to make him feel like he actually had a family or A home

Hi Mrs.Simonds!,

I think it changes the story because that will make Maniac have a home and a address again. I think that Maniac will stay there with Grayson. The events that leads up to this are Grayson gives Maniac Magee 10 cents a day and then he uses that money to buy books. Then he helps Grayson read with the books that Maniac bought. Then they both have a party. (I forget what the party is about!) WHOOPS! In the beginning Grayson and Maniac Magee didn't know about each other and now they both know each others secrets and what has happened in their life.

Hi Mrs. Simonds

I think Maniac painted 101 out side of the locker room because he need a place to live and that's where he is living.
The events that led up to the turning points where he meets Grayson and makes friends, Grayson becomes his guardian also Grayson gives Miniac his famous baseball glove.
At first they thought of each other as just random people and this guy just found Maniac somewhere and the guy was bringing the kid back to his house then they became two peas in a pod.

I agree. I think Grayson was really close to Maniac. I also think that Grayson took really good care of Maniac. I am really sad that Grayson died that was a turning point in the book. That was exactly what I wrote. About him writing the 101 on the door. Smart thinking!!!!!

Hi Will Mac,
I agree with you on question 3. The reason I agree with you is that Maniac and Greyson have gotten close enough to have Thanksgiving together, and live in the same house. I also think Maniac wasn't buying the books for himself but for Greyson.

Anonymous said...

To Riley

I agree with Riley because I think that is a turning point too. I also agree that Maniac and Grayson friendship has got a lot stronger. I do not agree with you when you said the events because I think the events to the turning point were when Grayson brought Maniac to the baseball shack.
