Book Talk- Kira Kira by Cynthia Kadohata

Kira-Kira means glittering/shining in Japanese.  This book is about two sisters that love each other very much and their family.  Katie is Japanese along with the rest of her fmaily.  Katie is a little girl who depends on her sister Lynn very much.  If Lynn says "When you get oler you will need to go to college so you need to get your grades up so you will get a scholarship", then Katie would get good grades.  But when lynn gets extrememly ill, the whole family starts to fall apart.  Their mom becomes pregnant and their dad looses his job.   Lynn then starts to do everything she can to help the family.  Lynn can not go to school because she is so tired and Katie is failing school.  Will Lynn get better so she can help her fmaily remember that there is always something glittering and shining( Kira-kira)?  This book is a novel.  I promise that you will love this book.  It is an unforgettable story.  I have never read a book like it.

Julia what a great job you did presenting that! You did what you were supposed to do, make me want to read the book!It seems like Kira Kira is a book that will never get boring. I wonder what will happen to Lynn and what made her so ill?!Kira Kira sounds sad but a well writen book. Is the book in a series? Kira Kira is realistic fiction, Right?

Hey Julia .S.
Nice booktalk That sounds like a book I would like to try to read. That sounds like a book full of suspense because if Kate depends on Lynn and if Kate dies anything could happen. I would also like to know is this a sad book or a happy book? I think I'm totally going to read this book if you rated it a ten like you did in class. I would recomend the book "Homeless Bird" to you I am reading it right now and it's so good. See you in school tomorrow bye.

Hello room 2308!
I think that the title is a very interesting name for a book. The name for the book still seems very confuses me. Why did they name the book Kira-Kira?
I think that it is very sweet that the book is about two sisters that love each other and their family very much. I think that that is a good start to the book. It is also very cute that little Katie depends on her older sister very much.
I thought that it was vey sad when you told us that Lynn gets very ill and the entire family starts to fall apart.
Does Katie's mom end up having a baby?
Thank you Julia so much for giving me an idea. When I saw your book when you were reading it i got very confused because of the title.
I think it is a good title for a book like that, when two sisters love each other and their family very much.
If Lynn is very sick then why does she do everything to help the family when they start falling a part?
I think that you are right that it will be an unforgettable story just by you book talking it
THANKS JULIA!!!!!!!!

Hi Mrs.Simonds, Julia.S this book sounds great! If you rate it a ten it probably is a good book ( you got me hooked!) I think Lynn might die and Katie learns that she has to be more independent. Or another thought is that When everyone starts breaking down, including Katie she starts to step it up. I Do you know what other books this author wrote. I think in the end it's going to be happy, like everyone is going to recover. Lynn sounds like the kind of girl who helps other people and is a " leader". Katie sounds like the kind of person who's a "follower" and does what everbody else does. Love, monkey101 a.k.a Julia.H

Hi it's Tom. I think Julia did a good job. She definaley has to work on slowing down. Also she has to stop mumbling her words. I hope everyone else liked it. Again nice job to Julia.

Hey!
Julia your book talk was GREAT! I'm almost finished with the book! I'm on page 200! The book is really good, it's really one of its own kind. Like there are not many books like it. I would recommend it to any realistic fiction lover! Even people who just like a heart warming book. On the topic of books I would also recommend the book So Be It because it's another heart warming book. Tonight the moon is Kira-Kira! Have fun reading amazing books!

Hello room 2308ers!!
Well I don't really know what to blog about because there are no blogs posted. I'm reading a book called 39 clues, it has a lot of crazy things that happen. For example they sneak into a house and almost get caught. They don't exactly have a very good guardian so they have to use their own money. They are very clever and smart, there for most of there cousins who they don't really know are following them to find the clues instead of trying to do it themselfs. The whole reason this hont started is because their grandmother Grace died and left the hunt for them.

Dear Room 2308,

I think that it was very nice that the rich man gave Greg all the money he needed! I think that the rich man is also kind of scary and mean. I think that because he yells alot! I think that he is nice also because he didn't get all that angrey when Greg forgot about making a brige and needs more money! I was also wondering when the school will be finished.

Hello Room 2308....................... =-)
Hey Julia, you know how you said that Kira-Kira was a unforgettable story? Well I just finished reading a book called Fairest. I think that it is an unforgettable story too.
I think that it is sad that Lynn gets very sick and also that Katie is failing school.
Do Katie and her family live in Japan? I would like to figure that out.

Hello room 2308ers!!!:)
It seems like a good book. I wonder if Lynn will get better again. Will the dad get a new job to help keep the family together? What will happen to the mom? I also wonder if Katie's grades will go up and she will get a scholarship for college. Maybe I will want to read the book Kira-Kira too.

Hi Mrs.Simonds!!!:)
That's cool that Kira-Kira means glittering/shining. I think it's interesting that the Japanese use names that mean something. Katie really does seem to love her sister. She would listen to everything Lynn would say. So since Katie loves Lynn a lot, She must have been said that she got sick.

Hi it's Ben ˆ_ˆ I have just finished a book called The Keys to the Kingdom Mister Monday. It is a REALLY, REALLY, REALLY, good book. Thankfully,it's a series of I think four books. But now I'm on the second book called Grim Tuesday. I've realized that it has only a bit to do with time, and clocks and that sort of thing, but more to do with a boy who has to stop another world (The House) from ruining his ( The Earth)...

dear Julia,

Hello room 2308ers!!
I agree with everyone and it seems like everyone has the same things that they said,"It makes me want to read Kira-Kira." I don't know, but it kinda sounds more like a book a girl would read. Julia is more of a book that girls would like? I now what kira-kira means but why would a book be called glittery/shiny? It seems like a weird name. Just the tittle makes me want to read it to find out why it's named glittery/shiny. If you said why the tittle's name is glittery/shiny it might give away a good part. Since you didn't tell us the tittle it leaves a cliff hanger so the readers will want to read it to find out.Great Booktalk!!

Hi Mrs.Simonds, Julia.S you did a really good job on that book talk but I have a few questions. Is " Kira Kira" a realistic fiction book? Also what other books has that author written? Another thing is, what made you pick this book , was it something you saw or heard about the book? Was this your favorite book you have ever read? I really enjoyed your book talk well maybe I might read that book ( after I read 20 others that I want to read). love,Julia.h A.K.A monkey101

Wow also a compliment to Julia.S. that when I read your book talk you seem very connected to this book and really felt it. Happy reading bye.

Hey!
I finished the book! Everybody read it! It's a heart warming book. The way Julia described it was the perfect way. It was one of the best books I've read so far this year. I'm currently reading The Little Secret! I'm not in it that far but Its good. It's about a new girl who travels a lot and is kind of rich and is search of a best friend. Will the first girl she see's and sits next to be her best friend? It's an adventure book and a mystery book.
The back of it says: What ever you do don't open the box! Do you want to read now? I bet you do. Read it!

I think that Kira Kira sounds like a amazing book! I want to know if Katie will make it to college or get a scholarship. Now I think it's the other way around because now Lynn depends on Katie to take care of here. I never knew that the names Lynn and Katie were Japanese. I wonder what Sam means in Japanese? I guess I have to read the book to answer all my questions!

Hiii...Again

I think you did a spectacular job with your book talk! I agree with Drew when he said you were a little quite and thats all you need to improve on. I also think that you should of looked at the rest of the class a little bit more too. I might read that book next but I kinda don't like sad stories but I think at the end of the book that it will be happy because Katie will get a scholarship. The auther Cynthis Kadohata sounds familiar to a book I read before.

I don't think I was there or in the room when you did your book talk but I bet it was great. I am done with the book and it was so so so good. I think your blog was very true. I think you did a great job telling the plot but not giving the book away. And I have never read a book like that also.

Dear Room 2308,

I am commenting on Kelsey's blog! I did not think of this to much but it does seem like a book that never gets boring! Something else I did not think of then ,but that I know it really makes me wonder is, how did her sister get sick?! I also definitely want to know if its in a series, I REALLY want to read it! I was I also really want to know if it is fiction or nonfiction!

I agree with diana that the title is interesting. I think this because it is in a different language. I think the auther is smart to do that because the reader sees the title and says that looks interesting I want to read that. I also think the pictures interesting. I can not wait to hear more book talks.
