Finished with The Cay!

We finished today! Wow, what an ending. I could see in your faces, you thought Phillip would get rescued, then you thought he wouldn't, then you realized he would!

So, now that we are finished, what would you rate this book?

Write a book talk to recommend this book and post it here. Try to sell, sell, sell, as Henry says! ( Even if you do not rate it a 9 or 10, try to write a book talk that would sell the book anyway)

I would give "The Cay" a 9.99999. I was not my favorite book but it was a really good book. I still can't belive that Timothy DIES at the end. I wonder why Timothy died. He could of died from getting hurt or he could have died from old age. He could have also had a heart attack (of somthing else like that). The only thing that I expected to die was Stew cat.
At the end when Phillip (and Stew cat) get rescued I think it is funny how NOBODY belived Phillip's story.

If you are looking for a great book to read you should read "The Cay". I rated this book a 9.99999. Phillp the main character is a boy livig on an island with his mom and dad. The story takes place during World War 2.
Phillips mom wants to go away to America to stay safe (from the war of course). So they board a ship to leave.
What will happen to Phillip when his ship is torpedoed and he is stranded on a raft with a black man he doesn't know with a cat? Will Phillip be Rescued?
You should read this book!!

How did you like my book talk?

The Cay by Theador Taylor is a great book!!!! It is about Phillip, a boy in the Carribean. He lives on a beautiful island. One day he is forced to leave home, but on the trip, a German submarine blows up the ship!!!!(In World War Two.) He wakes up on a raft with a cat and as Phillp says an ugly black man. Now Phillp is in the middle of the ocean with no help!!!!! Find out what happens!!!!

I would give the Cay a 10 because it is about survival and WWII my two favorite things in the world. The Cay all starts out when the nazi u boats have come but not invaded the small island that Phillip the main charther and his two parentsand some of his friends the island is down off of the carbien sea.So Phillip's mom wants to leave the small island because of the nazis so they get on a boat and early morning of the next day their boat gets torpadoed and a piece of wood hits him across the head and when he wakes up the next and he realizes that he is on a raft with a black guy.I would totally give it a TEN.Will they survie???? I predicted that Stew Cat was not going to die!!! Yay Stewy!!!! I wonder what bit Phillip when he dove into the water. He said he guessed that it was a eel but I'm not sure. P.S. I noticed when Timothy died Phillip
followed his instructions. I thought that he would crack under pressure. If I was out at sea alone fighting for my life I would. I would rate it a 11.999999999999999999999999999(till infinity). If I would write a sequel it would be on Phillip being old and passing on his skills.Hernie/ Hendlberry//Hendlson

Well I forgot my S.S.S.S.S. paper so I'm just going to sell it. If you like ship talk, a black man and, a white kid that likes the war.Well if you like any things from that list, you we love this book.If I were you I would read this. And if you don't, it is your lost.

I would give "The Cay" a 9.99976 % rating it is my favorite book ever. I liked the ending it was suspenseful. I was sad that Timothy had to die on a beautiful island called the devil's mouth. I wish Timothy had been alive so he could have been rescued too. I think it is really mean that the rescuers did not believe Philip they thought he was crazy or something. I think it is a great book because of all the adventures in it and it is cool. I wonder if he was embarrassed that he was naked when he was found it did not say in the book. I would have been wicked embarrassed. My favorite part of the book was when the storm hit the eye of the storm was so exciting and beautiful. Theodore Taylor made it so that you could picture what was happening throughout the book. He wrote a lot of good books. I think Philip should visit Timothy's grave on devil's mouth cay. P.s. The beginning was not as exciting as the rest of the book!

I would definitely rate The Cay a 10. Here's my booktalk:
The Cay (I forget who wrote it) is a great historical realistic fiction novel. This book is about a boy named Philip who gets stranded on a forgotten cay (island). Philip is stranded with a black man named Timothy. Philip goes blind and relys on Timothy to teach how to do things himself. Timothy and Philip have some rough times but they create an incredible friendship. The Cay was probably one of my favorite books (and that's saying a lot). I definitely recommend this book.
Questions, comments, any takers?
(I'm just kidding, we already read the book!)

I Would give The Cay a 9.9876. It was a really good book and I like how they described the Island and the characters. I kind of knew Timothy would die because he was always protective of Phillip. He could've died from old age because he didn't even know how old he was. How did Stew Cat survive? Does Phillip get Rescued? Any Takers?

Hi Everyone!!
I would rate The Cay a 9. It's not my favorite book ever and I wouldn't choose it for myself, but I liked it. I was really heart-broken when Timothy died. I felt as if I were going to cry.(I always cry.) So below I'm going to do a booktalk on The Cay:
The Cay by Theodore Taylor is a book about a boy named Philip who lives on an island in the Caribbean named Curacau. This book takes place during World War II so Philip thinks it's all a game. When Philip's mom gets nervous about the war she takes Philip on a boat to America to be safe, but the ship got torpedoed. When Philip wakes up, he is on a raft with a hideous black man named Timothy. They end up finding an island and then they are stranded on the island. What makes it even worse is that Philip is BLIND!!! Will Timothy and Philip get saved from the island? And will Philip and Timothy make a friendship or un-friendlyship??
The Cay is a great and heart warming story. The end gave me a suprise that made me want to keep on reading! If you like survival books like The Hatchet, you would love The Cay!! The Cay is a great fiction book that makes you stop what your doing and read. I highly recomend THE CAY!!!!

I agree with Katherine. I still can't believe that Timothy dies. I expected it though. I mean, it can't all go well for Philip. I'm answering Katherine's question:Timothy died from old age AND from the storm because it hit him REALLY hard. I disagree with Katherine on Stew Cat maybe dying because if Timothy died, they wouldn't want Stew Cat to die too because then Philip would be alone on the island. It is sort-of funny how nobody believes Philip story but it is also sort-of sad because it really happened and he just wants people to know what happened to him. I LOVED The Cay because it is very different.

I did not like this book!!!!!!! It didn't seem like a book I would read! I would rate it a 3!!!!! It didn't seem exiting at all. It didn't get me into it at all! Not a page turner! It was so bad I could never write a book talk on it!!!!!!!! At some parts I had no clue what was happening at all!!!!!!!!!!! It was so obvious that he was going to get rescued!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hated this book even though I am the book boy I do not recommend this book!!!!!!!!

I wonder if Timothy was predicting he was going to die. It would make sense because he taught Philip how to take care of himself. I was surprised more people didn't rate The Cay a 10 because it seemed like a lot of people liked it. I wonder if Theodor Taylor had Stew Cat in the book because Timothy dies at the end and he doesn't want Philip to be left alone at the island. Now that Gianna brought up the point, I wonder why Theodor Taylor writes about blind people. Maybe someone he knew was blind. Adios and have a great weekend!!!

#1. What I think about the book is that well one thing I like about the book is the ending I'll say, "Dis b'dat outrageous cay,eh,Timothy" I like the ending of the book. I think it is wonderful. and it just I dont no what to say i just like the ending of the book and I dont just like the ending I like the hole book. I also think that the end of the book is sad because timothy dies and I feel VERY bad for phillip because he probably misses him VERY much but anyways I love the ending of the book.

I would give this book a 9.9999999999991% Because it was a very exciting adventurous book, and I really liked how the put Timothys accent instead of english that was cool. And I like how ye had Timothy die because it was unexpected. I like how they have Phillip have his sight back, and if I were Phillip I would want to tell Timothy that I got my sight back, and I never knew you could ever get your sight back when you lost it! And if I were Phillip I would want to take Timothys body back and burry it on land, because if there were a storm his body could blow away, and I would also do it because I would want to remember hom alwayse because he took care of me for like 5 months!

I would give "The Cay" a 10. A month ago Mrs. Simonds posted, what is your favorite read out loud book in school ever? I said the "Tale of Despereaux" now I'm going to say "The Cay". I liked this story because it has a great plot. I loved the way Phillip got to appreciate Timothy even though he was black. I was sad when Timothy died but happy that he taught Phillip how to take care of himself.

Katherine why did you say nobody believed Phillip? It never said they didn't believed Phillip they were just wowed. It also said in the book that Timothy died because of the rocks that hit his back during the tempest. Emma is going to be really mad at you because of what you said about Stew cat. You also refered to him as a "thing", now she's really really going to be mad at you.

I disagree with Arelis when she said that the only happy thing is that Stew Cat was still alive, Philip was rescued and he got to go bact to his parents. I really disagree with that because I can think of a lot of other happy things that happened. Like that Timothy and Philip became good friends. I think that's happy because if you think of everything that happened in their relationship I smile. Sometimes, even the bad times.
One thing about the ending of The Cay is that Philip and his mother stayed in Curacau. I am suprised nobody has said anything about that. I would think that the torpeedo scared Philip's mom and she didn't want to go to America anymore. That's one theory but I think the most likely one is that she wanted her family to be together always.(Awwwww!)
To answer Katherine's question, Timothy died of old age and from the storm. I think the storm mostly tore him apart because he could have lasted a while longer if they didn't get hit by the storm. He was bloody and weak after the storm, when he died:(
I still can't even face the truth that Timothy died. He was caring, wise, brave, everything that you can think of nice!!

Hi! Here is my book talk...(Does this count for a book talk Mrs.Simonds?)

"The Cay" is a great realistic fiction book by Theodore Taylor. I would rate it a 9. It takes place in world war ||. It's about a boy named Phillip who lives on a island with his mother and father. His mother has had enough of the war so Phillip and his mother take a boat to the US but their boat gets blown up. Phillip gets stranded on a island with a black man named Timothy and a cat named Stew Cat. Phillip goes blind and starts to depend on Timothy. Will they survive? What happens when a storm hits?? Will they EVER get rescued??? Read the book to find out!!!!!
Questions? Comments? Any takers?

BLOG 2 : Book talk
The Cay by Theodore Taylor. It is about a kid (Phillip) who is living in Curacao. When the Germans (WWII) attack his island he is forced to move. On his way his boat gets torpedoed by a U-boat and gets hit on the head. He gets into a raft with a ugly Black man & Stew cat. Later he becomes blind from his head wound , on the raft with a "stupid" black man. Will Phillip ever see again, will he live? Read to find out!!!!! Henry.

I would rate this book a 9.999 because it has a lot of cliff hangers and I didnt want to stop reading the book, I think this is my 3rd favorite book! I like how Timothy dies because all the other school I have red in the past have been boring because they dont want you to cry and get scared, that was when I was like 3-6, in like mid February I am going to try to write a book talk and I was wondering does it count as one of your 2 book talks? cause that would be cool!

"The Cay"is a great fiction book about a white boy and a black man (notice how I didn't mention Stew Cat Emma?) fighting for survival on a deserted island. I'm now going into "The New York Times"mode. A heart warming story sure to please people from age 1-1000. Will they make it off alive? Or will they live there for the rest of their lives? Read to find out. This is a 10 out of 10 book.

I found The Cay to be alright. I would rate it 4.8 because it was too predictable, I knew that Timothy would die and that Phillip would be recused in the end and that something bad was going to happen Phillip(blindness). Also I don't like because I didn't understand it, I did completly understand it. In summary I found the book boring and predictable and would have rather spent the class reading Jane Eyre(that is a so much better book by the way)
