Point of view

Hello Room 2308 Readers!
It has been a while since we have blogged about our reading.  We are well on our way into Rules by Cynthia Lord.  The story is told from Katherine's point of view, and we have discussed what she is struggling with in her life.
Tonight, choose another two characters and discuss how the story would change if it was told from their point of view.  What would their main struggle or tensions be?  What would their opinion of Catherine and the other characters be?
You could choose from:
David
David's mom
David's dad
Ryan
Kristy
Jason

Good luck and happy blogging!

From Kristi's point of view,
Kristi is torn between Ryan and Catherine. Kristi wonders how much pressure and stress is on Cath. Kristi knows that Ryan is her boyfriend, but he can be unintentionally mean. Kristi needs to understand a way to have them both happy, the dance is her idea. She must choose friend over fame.

To Mrs Simonds,
If the story was from Jason point of view it would be about his disability and cathrine. He would also be talking about his OT a lot. If it was Jason point of view it would be very boring and not much action.
If the story was on kristy she would talk about her parents and how they are devorsed. She would also talk about Cathrine and Ryan. It would be okay if it was from her point of view but it wouldn't be as good as it is with Catherine. There is also a lot of twists Catherine in right now that is why it from her point of view.

Hi Mrs. Simonds!
Kristy- It would be different from Kristy's point of view because it would talk a lot about how her parents are seperated from each other. It would also talk a lot about how different David is from all of the other children that she has met. Another reason is would be different is that Kristy would also talk about how Kristy feels about people that are different.

David- It would be different from David's point of view because it would talk about how David feels because he is different. It would also be different because he sees different things then other people and he also experiences things different than people that don't have autism. Another reason that it would be different from David's point of view is that you would read about how he learns different an dhow he feels being different from everyone else.

Hi, is josh you know it!
Let's see, I choose Ryan. In his mind its probably the same as Katherine. " wow, she needs to grow up!" " that girl makes me so mad!" " she is sooo irritating". See what I mean! Ryan might just have gotten up on the wrong foot with Katherine. I'm not saying I don't agree with her but sometimes she can overreact to stuff
Well, Josh out!

Dear Mrs. Simonds,

If the story was told by Jason his problems would be that he is in a wheelchair and he can not walk. Jason's opinion about Catherine would be that she is his friend and that she is pretty. If the sorry was told by Kristy, her problems would be that her parents are taking a break for a while and all she wants them to do is to live together again and smile. Kristy's opinion about Catherine would be that she is her friend and they both like each other.

Hello Fellow Pupils,
My first character I'm choosing is David and Katherine's mom. If the story were told from her point of view it would totally change because she would be telling you her feeling and her life. A tension or struggle David and Katherine's mom has is dealing with her son who has autism and her daughter who wishes her brother were different. I think her opinion of all the characters would be much more humble because that is her personality.
My second person I'm choosing is Kristy. I'm sure Kristy's thoughts and feelings are confusing and complicated, mainly because it's never easy being the new kid. Which leads me to Kristy's biggest struggle, being the new kid!!! Her opinion of all the characters we've met or the people she's met would be what she thinks is good or bad about them!!! Love to R-E-A-D!!!

I want to here the point of view from kristi because it would be really cool to see how it would be to have parents who are separated and what it would be like to have two rooms and possibly two sets of parents

Dear Mrs.Simonds,

My first character is Kristi. I think her main struggle would be that her parents might be getting a divorce and she might be scared that it will actually happen. I think she likes Catherine because why else would she always wan't to hang out with her. She also lives next door. I have a friend that lives next door and we are really good friends. So I think it helps the friendship if you are always near your friend. I think Kristy likes Ryan and the other character even though she has only briefly met Jason.
My second character is Jason. I think Jason's main problem would be that he is in a wheelchair that he can never get out of. This reminds me of the Superman poem we read today in class. I think he likes Catherine because he told her she was pretty. Also towards the beginning of the book he pointed to Catherine friend in his book.

Hi Mrs. Simonds,
If the story was told through Ryan's point of veiw the story would change to a story about teasing and being mean. I think this because he is always teasing David. Ryan's opinion on Catherine would probaby be that she is a overprotective wierdo. His opinion on David would probably be, wow this kid is very easy to pick on. Ryan's main struggle would be learning how to except people for who they are noticing their differences. If the story was told from Kristy's point of veiw their would be lots of questions like, why does David act like he does? And why does Catherine act weird around Ryan? I think that Kristy's problems would probably be realizing that Catherine does not really feel comfortable around Ryan. Also that Catherine's life is a little different and so she might act a little different and that that is okay. Kristy's opinion about Catherine is probably, she is pretty cool, and I kind of want to be friends with her. Kristy's opinion about David is probably, he is quite different but thats not a big deal. I think this because she does not seem to mind.

Mrs.Simonds~

I have chosen to write about Jason and Davids mom. I chose these people because I already have an idea in my mind what it would be like for them.
Jason: I think that if the book was from Jason's point of view it would be really cool. I think that he would talk a lot about Catherine and talk about how it is hard to live with a disability. I also think that it would be really cool because he cant talk, so he probably has a lot of stuff going on in his mind.
Davids Mom:I think that it would be really interesting from her point of view. I think that it would be mostly worrying about David and not so much about Catherine. I say that because David has a disability, so she has to take care of him.

Hi Mrs. Simonds,

Ryan: If the story was in Ryan's perspective than the story wouldn't have the same feeling. You wouldn't feel bad for Catherine, or Jason, or David or any of the characters. Ryan is probably my lest favorite character. I don't like how he is a big show off or the way he makes people look bad like in the book it says. "I watch Ryan gesturing, like he's explaining something. probably telling Kristi all the bad things I've ever said to him and leaving out the reasons why."

Jason: If the story was in Jason's perspective than the story would be more abut his life. I also think the book would be about words he wants to say that are not in the communication book. Or words he wish he could say verbally. The characters would also be different. There would be no Ryan or Kristi.

Dear Mrs Simons
. I think that The book would've very different if it was from Ryan's point of view. I think that there would be parts of the book where Ryan would be makng fun of Catherlin and talking about how David is weird. I also think that if it was from David's point of view it would be alot of David thinking about what's going on with Jason and Catherlin, " why does Catherlin always send me off to mom ". I also think that he would be thinking, "why won't Ryan be my friend and is he friend."if It was from dads point of view I think there would not be a lot of Catherlin and mom in the book. If it was from kristis point of view I believe that mabey Kristi is jut trying to be nice nd hanging with Catherlin-Matt graziano

Hi Ms. Simonds

Hi my name is David and one of my struggles is having to go to speech alot and people teasing me all the time like Ryan. Another bad thing is that he is on of our next-door neighbors and we will be seeing him alot more now because of our new neighbor Kristi. Kristi just moved to our neighbors old house and she already has a boyfriend and that boyfriend is Ryan. Sometimes Catherine my sister is annoying when she tells me I can't do this and that all the time and especially all those rules and rules and rules and rules. ~David

Hi my name is Kristi and one of my struggles is being friends with both Ryan and Catherine because they are basically arch enemies, this is because in Catherines point of view Ryan is such a bully to everyone and thinks he's the boss of everyone still in her point of veiw he thinks he can tease David till he cries and cries. But I dont think that at all I think he is very handsome and nice. ~Kristi

P.S. I think you spelt Catherine wrong.

Hi Mrs, Simonds,
From Jason's point of view, it would be all about his life with his disability, Catherine and his OT teacher. His disability is a probably a frustrating to him and he wants to say it with his voice. But he cant because of his disability prevents him from talking, so his mom, and Catherine are making cards for him with words on them and pictures to go with the words. And Catherine is special to Jason. It all started with a picture that she gave him. Now shes making cards for him. And he invited her to his Birthday party!! And Jason thinks her OT teacher STINKS A BIG ONE!! because she always yells and is anoying. I think Jason's point of view would be good in the book, but I like Catherine's better because she has a lot going on in her life. ~grace

Hi Mrs.S
If I had to choose a character I would choose David. If the book was told from David's point of view the story would talk more about all the things he wishes he could do. If the story was from David's point of view it would not be as exciting because I think he would just obsess over small things like his frog and toad cassette player. David would struggle with conversations and what would be okay to do in certain situations. I think David would think Catherine was a good sister that was trying to comfort him and help him with the rules. I'm sure he would be annoyed with her too because he might not always like the rules.
The second character I choose is Jason. If the story was told from Jason's point of view the story would talk a lot about Catherine and her friends and all the things that they can do like swimming and running. I think the story would be very interesting told from Jason's point of view because I bet he has a lot to say. Right now it seems that he communicates with his book but he might have a lot more thoughts that we would hear if he was narrating the story. The struggle would be around how he is limited on what he can say and do because of his medical situation. I am sure it must be very frustrating to want to walk or say what you want but your body can't do it! Jason obviously enjoys Catherine's company and he looks forward to seeing her and going over the new cards she has drawn for him. I wonder what Jason thinks about David?

Hi mrs,simonds
It would be really cool too see the point of view of Jason
because he would be telling you how it is to be in a wheel chair for the rest of your life and not to beable
to talk.
