Turning Points

Wow, what a finish to our book!

I can't wait to hear your thoughts and impressions.  Tell me what you would rate this book on a scale of 1 to ten and tell me how you choose your rating.
What was your favorite part?  Least favorite part?

How is the summer of 1976 a turning point in the lives of both Gabe and Frita? When they are older, what do you think each will most remember about this exciting summer?

Happy Reading!
Mrs. S

Hello

I would rate the book a 10. Because it has a little bit of humor so it's not that funny and a the rest would be serious. My favorite part is when Frita jumps of the rope swing. Because when the author put really good detail of what happend at that part. I forgot what happend but I know it was good. I think they will remember all the difficulties that they had to go through.

Hello Room 2308,
I would rate the book a 7 because I didn't really like it too much. I thought it was kind of boring.
My least favorite part was when the man told the little girl that she better watch out for the Ku Klux Klan.
My favorite part of the book was when he had the dream about the big spiders.
1976 was a turning point for Gabe and Frita because of the Ku Klux Klan. When they are older, they will probably remember the bully's dad the most.

Hello ralliers!!!!!!
I wish that there was a second book or even a third book. I thought that it was a great finish to the book. I would probably rate it a 9 and 3 quarters because at the end it didn't tell you anything at the end if that guy running for president was their. My least favorite part was probably the spider because it didn't make any sense because they didn't let Jimmy go and Gabe had already done that fear. My FAVORITE part was...........
I don't know. I have to many of them. that summer was probably a turning point because they learned how to be BRAVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Mrs.S
I loved that book. If I rated it from a scale from 1-10 I would chose a 10. The reason why I'd chose a 10 is because the story taught me that if you do have people you love with you anything is possible. My favorite part of the book was when Frita's brother gave Gabe Frita's list. When Frita's brother gave Gabe the list that really showed me that Frita's brother does care about Gabe and a lot. The summer of 1976 was a huge turning point in Gabe and Frita's life because they realized that real bravery came from when they were with friend and family. When Gabe and Frita get older and look back at that summer they will remember that Gabe and Frita only needed each and other to be brave.

hi Mrs.Simonds, I would rate this book and 10! I think it should be 10 because the book just makes you want to read more at the end of every chapter! Also I think the author showed what Frita and Gabe's personallity was with out telling it. My favorite part is when Frita and Gabe found the spider. My least is well I really don't have one. I think Frita and Gabe will remeber sleeping in the tent the most . love, monkey101 a.k.a Julia.h

I would rate the book a nine. Mostly because I'm more into fantasy/adventure. But over all it was a great realistic fiction story. I'd say my favorite part was when they went down into Frita's basement to find Gilagan. I think Gabe will remember Frita's list the most.

10 I thought that it was exciting.I liked how they were doing stuff that scarred them.I think doing stuff that you don't like will help you with it.I actually might do that.

Hello room 2308ers!:)
That is a great book. I would freeze up if I were Gabe and feel bad for Frita, how she was scared that Gabe wouldn't go to fifth grade. I wonder if Jimmy Carter ever won. I wonder a lot of stuff that could happen later on. There should be a series.

Hello room 2308ers!!:)
I loved this book!I think I would rate it a 9. The reason I gave the book a nine is because I thought the book was very interesting with those lists. I loved how they read something off there list and thay both figured out a way to pass whatever fear they had. It was interesting to see everything on both there lists at the end! My favorite part was when Gabe was stuck under the picnic table and Duke and Frankie found him. It left me wondering the whole entire scene. My least favorite part was......well I don't have a least favorite part everything was good. It's a huge turning point in there lives because they learn that you don't have to be afraid of anything even Mr.Evan if you just face your fears. If I were Gabe or Frita i would most remember the list they made and everything they did becase of those lists. I wish there's was a second book to see how fifth grade goes for both of them!

Hi Mrs. Simonds,
I thought the book was either a nine or ten.Because I think that it was really good and I loved how the author made it seem that alot was going to happen toward the end but not everything happened just the really special things like Gabe and Frita reuniting together. Although usually in books when there are problems with best friends usually the book resolves itself.
I think when Gabe and Frita are older they will remember a tough time of almost losing eachother.
My favorite part of the book is probably when Terrence lets Gabe have Fritas list or the ending.
Love, FUZZEL
p.s. I can't believe how many things are on Gabes list But also I can't believe how little Gabe has.

Hi, it's Tom. I loved it when they caught Jimmy and he came to his trailer in his underwear. On a scale on one to ten I would give it an eleven. I did not have a least favorite part. I think Gabe and Frita will both remember the lists. I hope we read another book that is similar to this book.

On a scale of 1 to 10 I would give it a 10! My favorite part is at the end when they see the kids under the picnic table. my lest favorite is when Gabe kills Gilligan. I think it is a turning point because they both overcame all there fears. I think they will remember running away from the boys at the end.

Dear mrs Simonds,

My rating for the book would have to be 10 i loved it ! it reminded me of the book Winn-Dixie. I choose ten because it was a story that shows friend ship and loyalty. My favorite part of the book wasthe end where they all work together to stop mr Evans. Plus i didn't really have a least favorite part it was a great book. The turning point for Gabe and frita is when frita makes her list. I think gabe and frita will remember about that summer is when frita's mom and dad gabes mom and dad andterance all work together.

Hi Mrs. Simonds I missed you today.Did you get some bunnies? Anyway what I wanted to ask you is what do you think about the book about Gabirel King? Also is it a true story? What is your favorite part? What do you think Gabe and Frita will remember most about the summer of 1976? Talk to you later!Love,

Hi!
Well when we finished the book I was like "Its over!?"
I was so sad because it was such a great book! My rating would be a 10.My favorite part would be when they swung on the rope swing and when Gabe faced his fear of Tarence. My least favorite part was when Gabe got beat up Duke. I think the turning point in Gabe and Frita's lives was at the end when they had that rally thing and there fathers were doing speeches. I think they will remember the lists they made of what there scared of and they would laugh at the thought of making lists of what they were scared of. I think if there was another book Gabe would find out that 5 grade isn't that scary. In the end it was all about friendship.

Dear room 2308er's

I rate the book a ten because it keeped on wanting me to read more.
My favorite part was when they were at Fritas house making there lists and at the dinner table when Frita told Tarence that Gabe was scared of him. My least favorite part was whan you stoped reading. I think that they will both rember the spech and there lists. Now that is one of my favorite new books.

Over and out

Hello room 2308ers!!:)
I agree with Georgia. I also liked the part when Terrence gave Gabe Fritas list. I liked that part for the same reason. I also agree with Georgia that Gabe and Frita will remember them sleeping in the tent. The reason why I only gave the book a 9 in my past comment was because once you've read Mandy and The Last of the really Great Whangdoodles it's hard to give another book a 10, because those two books are way better than LGK.

Hi Mrs.Simonds, Diana I agree I wish there was a second or third book. I also think that there were a lot of loose ends that weren't tied up. An example is what happend to the spider? did they find out if mr.Evans was in the Clue Clux Clan? But I still really like the book, I wonder what other books this author has written. I really like it cause every chapter makes you want to read more! I love how the author has so much detail it makes me have picture in my head. love, monkey101 a.k.a Julia.H

HELLO
I think that the story taught a LOT of important lessons on friendship, loving and not to trust everybody. When I say that it teaches you not to trust everybody I mean that by Mr.Evans. When he told Frita that the Klin Klux Klan was back in town I said in my head "Don't trust him Frita!!" Also I think that it teaches friendship because Frita and Gabe were BEST FRIENDS!!!! Because when Gabe decided that he wasn't moving up and Frita was,Gabe had a test. Either lose his best friend or keep his best friend. He chose to keep his best friend. I thought that, he made a GOOD decision. I probably would've made that decision.

Hi it's Tom. The turning point in their lives is standing up for themselves. An example of this is when Frita stood up for herself and punched Duke right in the face. Another example is when Duke was making fun of Gabe and said he wouldn't swing on the rope. Gabe stood up for himself and swung on that rope and jumped right in the water. Then he saw Duke with his jaw wide open.

Hello room 2308ers!!:)
I agree with Leah. I also wonder if Jimmie Carter won.I think if in the end of the book you wish there was another book it's prbably a really good book. After I've read everyone's post it seems that almost everyone wishes there was a second book.I also think the turning point in their lives this summer was the Ku Klux Klan because they learned to be brave!

Hi, it's Tom. Frita will remember Mr. Evans because Mr.Evans told her that the Ku Klux Klan was still after her family. I also think Frita will remember the lists because they were a big part of her life. I think Gabe will remember Duke because Duke was always bullying and making fun of Gabe. And I also think that Gabe will remember the list too because it made him get rid of his fears. Frita and Gabe will both remember all the good times they had with one another.

Anonymous said...

hi,
I would rate this book a ten because I liked the way that the author made the girl more stronger than the boy because it doesn't happen in many books. My favorite part is when Gabe and Frita are in the tent and they think the Clue Cluckes Clan is coming so they start to sceram and roll around in the tent.My least favorite part is when Mr.Evens says something mean to Frita and Frita starts to cry. I think that it is a big turning point for Gabe and Frita because they get to libarate! Frita will remember having fun with her brother and I think that Gabe will remember having so much "fun" with Terince

Hi!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wan't to know why Neill's favorite part is when Gabe and Frita saw the two kids under the picnic table. And when Gabe kills Gilligan would be my second least favorite part. And to J.P why did you put a period after every 2 words? And I think it's cool that Martin Luther King JR. is in the book.

From The really awesome cool uber funny kid Sam. And the one that always gets owended by subs.

I agree with Sam. it only has a little bit of humor which I like. If it was to funny it would not really mack sens.I with There was another book. I wonder what we will read next.

Hello room 2308ers!:)
So I would rate it a 9 1/2 maybe, or a 9 or 8. I pretty much never give books a 10. Even if I liked them a lot. I don't know. Just at the highest I say I guess 9 1/2. I don't really have a favorite part. I like them all. I also don't have a least favorite part. When there older, I bet they will remember best the list and the debate.

Hello room 2308ers!:)
Frita and Gabe learned some lessons. But one good thing is that they both got a lot braver. But I can't beleave how much things were on Gabes list. Frita's probably happy that Gabe is going to fifth grade with her. They sure did have a crazy summer.

I would rate this book a 10 because i loved it. I loved all the exitement in it and the sadness in it. I mean it wasen't that sad but some parts where kind of sad. My favorite part of the book was when Gabe's dad piked Fretia up and held her in his arms I thought that was really tutching. My least favorite part of the book was when Duke tied Gabe up and made him miss the graduation. I really wish The authour would write another book like this one exept when they are in 5th grade and how that works out. Zoe

I have to agree with Dina on the spider part. And I don't get why they didn't tell you more about the president eathir. I can't belive the Klu Kluks Clan is still around.CREEPY!! I kind of ended up likeing Fretis brother later on in the book. My favorite chariter in the book would have to be Gabe.I don't know why.

Hello room 2308er's!
I would rate this book an 11. I agree with Jayme on how this book is related to Because Of Winn-Dixie. I think that the summer of 1976 was a turning point for them because Gabe had almost lost his best friend, Frita. Even though Gilligan wasn't really part of the main story I thought that he was pretty funny. "Hey Jayme, remember the caterpillar at Living History!!" Gillagan reminded me of him. See every one Tommorrow!!!!

Hey Ben,
I also rated the book a ten. I don't know if I think the book had humor. I thought it was more serious than humorous. I just realized that it is true it was a great part when Frita jumped off the rope swing. Wow, Ben that really made me think about how Gabe and Frita will remember that summer forever when you said you think Gabe and Frita will remember their diffucult times. See you in class tomorrow.

Hi Mrs.Simonds, Sam I agree it does have a bit of humor but not enough to be a humor book. Also when Frita jumped off the rope swing I thought that was very detailed also it was my 2nd favorite part. Also I don't think they will remember their difficulties I think they will remember one big difficulty. An example is when the boys bullied Gabe or when Duke's mom saw Frita and Gabe through the window. love, monkey101 a.k.a Julia.H

Hello, it's Diana
I know that we finished the book a while ago but I can't help remembering back to the book. My favorite part was probably when Gabe ran through the trailer in his underwear. Julia H. I agree with you how there where a lot of loose ends that weren't tied up. I love how the author writes the book with a lot of detail. I wish that they would tell you how the rally goes. This book is very similar to 3 Cups of Tea. I think that because Greg Mortenson, Frita and Gabe are all trying to fix something. Gabe and Frita are trying to fix and conquer their fears. Greg Mortenson is trying to fix schools in Pakistan and Afghanistan. I think that they are really brave.
