I think Rules and Out Of My Mind are a lot alike. Both books have kids in wheelchairs, kids who can't talk, and so on. I think that is you are liking Rules so far, you should try Out Of My Mind. It is so neat that Aidin (I don't know how to spell it!!!) is coming in to see us!!! I have already read Rules and I loved it!!! I have to thank Mrs. Simonds for getting us all copies of the book!!! I am glad to be reading it again because I only remember parts of it. Can't wait to watch School House Rock tomorrow!!! Adios for now!!!

I love the book Rules, I actually read it last year. I like it because usually books like these are in the perspective of the person who has the troubles like David or Jason. In Rules, it's in the perspective of the sister. The person who is having troubles with the person who needs help. I think sometimes Catherine expects too much from David because she wants to be a normal girl with a normal brother and doesn't have to go to the clinic all the time. She expects him to be exactly what she wants him to be. I think that's really unfair because he's autistic and sometimes, I bet David doesn't know what Catherine thinks about him. She definitely loves him, of course but, I don't think she likes to go out with him in public.
I think it was funny from what we read today when she was talking about the girl next door. She was hoping she was going to be exactly like herself; shy, likes to draw, read, etc. I think Catherine gets her hopes up too high and she'll be disappointed.

I am really liking the book so far. I like the way that Catherine tells the story (considering that she is ME) (just kidding!!!). I think that the book is about being different. Like the reading group books we read. What do you think of the book Mrs. Simonds?????? It is really weird to hear your name being said while the teacher is reading.

Rules has really taught me some things. The most important one is people with disabilities are kids like us, but with challenges. The chapter with Jason in it really made me think about this. Most people can be nice to a kid with disabilities, but not "friend nice", more of " I feel sorry for you" nice. They're not weird, they just have obstacles in life that we're not used to.

I think that david can be really annoying at times. But he cant really control it. Its kind of weird how he goes by rules. so every time Catherine wants him to do something she'll make it sound like a rule and write it in the back of his rule book. That is kind of weird but i can imagine doing that because it might get kind of annoying sometimes, and probably embarrassing. It must have been really embarrassing when David yelled as the new neighbors were moving in. I think towards the end of the book David will kind of learn to control himself. Catherine had a lot of hopes for her new neighbor. She wants her neighbor to be exactly like her. So they can be exactly like each other.

I sort of like Rules is it an okay book. It is not my favorite.
I never thought books would have autistic kids in them I have never read one this is a change for me.
A girl draws a picture of boy who is autistic. His Mom gets mad at the girl who drew the picture because she did not ask permission first. I think it is cool that the girl wanted to draw the picture. The kid can't talk so no one knows if he wants his picture drawn. I think he may have wanted to be in a picture. I do not get exactly why the Mom was mad the girl was trying to be nice. I wonder if the author has a child who is autistic. It must be hard to be autistic. So really this is a pretty interesting book. Mullet Man Noah

I finished Snow Spiders and it was okay. I liked the ending. I would like to read the sequel. My favorite part of the book was when his friend was lost. It was weird when he found that guy that killed lots of horses he was evil. It was kinda sad. If I had written the book I would have made it that the sister had not let go of the main character so they could have stayed together. I wish I were still reading this book or alreadt reading the second one. Mullet Man Noah

Does everybody know about the awarded books who are about kids with disabilites? Well, I've never noticed them before and since we talked about it in class, I see it everywhere! I have like fifty books with it. Who knew?
Like Julia said, thank you so much for the books, Ms. Simonds! I will probably read it so many times this summer and by the hundreth time, I will finally get sick of it. Even cooler is that the author, Cynthia Lord, is going to sign our books and that is like a huge bonus!
So far in the book my favorite character is David because I think he's so cute and fun. I imagine him to be dark haired, short and with a little puppy-dog face. I think it's really funny that both Catherine and David memorized all the words to Frog&Toad which is such a cute brother sister thing. If it is used in the right way, use a Frog&Toad line. We should totally do that tomorrow! Anyway, what's everybody's favorite character in the book?? Please answer!

P.S. Has anyone noticed Julia uses a lot of exclamation marks?

I think I kind of like the book so far. I think its cool to see how this person hadles having a brother with autism. I want to find out more about Jason and hope he and Catherine can be friends. I wonder why he's in the wheelchair because it only talks about his speech problems and doesn't say anything about why he's in the wheelchair. I like this and want to see how it ends.

I think that "Rules" and "Out Of My Mind" are the same kind of book. I think "Rules" could be like "Schooled" with the changing characters every chapter. I wonder what David has to think. I think that Catherine isn't giving David a chance. I hope there will be a second rules I like it:D

I think that Cathrine gets her hopes to high. She hopes that her next door neghbor will be just like her. No one is the same as another person though. I wonder if Jacob and whatever the other girls name will meet. If they do I wonder how they'll react. Whatever,we'll find out eventually. See ya! From(The dude from another world)Cheeseball

I think "Rules" is a really good book because other books about kids with disabilites tell the kids' point of view. This book tells the kids sisters point of view. Not many books are like this one. I'm wondering if Cynthia Lord had a person close to her that was autistic. If she did that's what probably got her to write this book. I don't think Catherine and her new neighbor will be best friends. I think she shouldn't have been expecting so much from a girl she didn't know. Sarah, what or who the heck is Ronnoc'o Haras? Katherine you're a stalker, who could of believed it?

I really like Rules. Even though I've already read it it's fun to read it again. I think we should all do book talks about Rules. It would be fun! I agree with -#1 tazmanian devil- the Rules does remind me of out of my mind. I really think they should have a second Rules book, because I think it leaves off at a weird part at the end. I was on google and I saw a saying, "When life gives you lemons, make lemonade" and under that was, "When life gives you lemons, make grape juice, the sit back, relax, and watch the world wonder how you did it" I think that one is really funny! Are we going to do the wheelchair thing? Because some other class did it and it looked fun.

I think Rules (after we finish the book) would be a great booktalk book. I don't know why, it just seems like it. I wonder why they have the character Ryan in the book because so afr he isn't that important. (I forget why he is in th book) It is really nice of Catherine to make Jason some cards. Jason's mom seems somewhat mean. She sort-of scares me( and it is hard dor people to scare me). Rules could very well be one of our book group books because it is about being different. Adios for now!!!

I have some connections. I read a book I forget what it was called, but this girls brother was always speaking out loud at any time and she would try to cover his mouth and make him be quiet, but then he start to do other things and she would take to the back wherever they were and calm him down and they would go back in. I really like the book I think it teaches a lot.

One of my reaction to this book is that Catherin acts so different when she is with David. For example in one chapter Catherin see's the new girl in the window and she closes the curtains because David is next to her.

Hope you like my comment. See you later, Will.p

I disagree with Julia. I don't think "Out Of My Mind" is like "Rules". "Rules" hasn't focused as much on disabilities as "Out Of My Mind" did. "Rules" is focusing more on a life of a regular girl that is having a hard time. "Out Of My Mind" focuses on a girl that has a lot of disabilities. I've noticed that Cynthia Lord focuses a lot on one moment, she wrote 8 pages just about chosing what words would go on the cards. Alex, those were amazing words you used. They could have moved anyone.

I agree Julia rules and out of my mind are about the same. I also agree with Herb, David is somtimes annoying. I notice that David always has to be in the center of attenion. I wonder if David is really going to be able to get better. I think this day with Aidin(I can't spell it)is going to be fun. Henry

Hi,

"I thought this book was awesome it shows that autistic people aren't any different than other people". I am autistic and I never thought that I was any different than other people.
