Anything But Normal chapters 8 and 9 discussion

Today we began a good conversation about intelligence and what it is. Jason was considered a "genius" when he was 4 because he could spell any word that he had seen once. Later on, he was considered "behind" all of his peers in school when he got older.
Question 1: What do you think happened to change Jason's status? What is intelligence? Is it something that changes or always stays the same?

Another thing that happened in the book was that Jason lost his temper and knocked over a pottery wheel. When the teacher left the room, the other kids threw clay around the room. Later on, the adults assumed that Jason had done it, and none of the kids spoke up and said that he did not.
Question 2: Have you ever been blamed for something you did not do? What did you do about it? How is that different from what Jason did?

I look forward to reading your responses!

Question 1: I think the thing that changed Jason's status is that when he went to school he had a harder time learning then other kids. intelligence is just how you do things and it always changes because like I said before intelligence is just how you do things.

Question 2: I have been blamed for something I didn't do and really all I do is just go with it and sometimes I just get mad and try to prove i'm iddicent. This is different then what Jason did like he broke a pottery wheel and I just playing x-box at my friends house with one of his friends and him and his friend lost and his friend got mad and threw the controler at the ground and it almost broke. At first my friend thought it was me but I proved that it was him.

Q 1: I dont think that his intellience as chaned in spelling. Definitly in other things. kids have learned all the words he can spell v.s. when he was four. You have to relize that he learns differently than us.intellience is how well you do in anything that you do. Like I may be better than Emma at knowing about anmials than her but she can be better than me at softball than be. but it dose not mean im dummer than her.

Q 2: No.I cant think of any thing that I got blamed for that lasted more than 30 seconds.

1.I think that jasons intellegence is different because he was still autistic(younger)(or was he?)because he rembered all these words so he was considerd smart so i think he was minunderstood.

2.When i get blamed for something it all depends all on how bad it is(thats my theory). Like once my brother nocked my mothers T.V. and my mom thought it was me horseing around with my bro.

I think that Jason never became behind. It's just that his peers caught up with him. So then they just kept on moving forward when eventually it seemed like Jason was behind. I think intelligence is what you have the ability to know. Everybody's intelligent but they have to take time and effort to show and realize that, I also think it changes as you learn things.
I have been blamed for something that never did. One time in second grade, there was a rumor that I said something mean to my friend when I really didn't. It took a while for people to get over the fact that I never did it. But after talking to my friend and the person that said that, it was better by the time third grade came around. It's different from what Jason did because he knew that he was mad and he realized that he had done something bad, even though it was an accident. He didn't stand up for himself, which I did too.

jasons status changed because he was really intelligente when he was little but he stayed at that leval of intelligence and all of his classmates began to learn more than him.to me intelligence is being good at something but to me you dont have to be really good at all things.to me intelligence can change because you can become really good at sonthing else to.
i have been blamed for somthing i did not do but i stood up for myself and told who really did it , my situation is different from jasons because i stood up for myself and i dont have atisim so i can stand up for myself a little bit better than if i did have atisim.

Question 1: I think he knew all these things but that is sort of where his brain decided it was time to slow down, a lot. He also might not have fully developed autism. I never really thought about what intelligence meant so it's pretty hard for me to answer that question. All I have for you is that I don't think it's the same thing as being smart.

Question 2: Honestly, I know this is going to sound weird But I can't really recall a time that I was blamed for something I didn't do. Usually I;m blamed for something I did do or my brother gets gets in trouble (whether he did it or not).

Q1 I think because jason stayed the same and couldnt do much, that his classmates got more nolige! Intelligence means like smart or knowing. Something might change each time, but it depends.

Q2 Ive been blamed only once, when somebody said that I pushed my friend off stairs! I just took the consaquince, I just needed to get it over with. Because the teacher and other really thought he did the clay thing and yelled at him hard! JEEZ GIVE HIM A BREAK PEOPLE!!!

I think the thing that changed Jason's status was that he had harder time focusing and found the teachers and kids sometimes mean, so he had a harder time. I think intelligence is when you work hard to be smart and echive goals.

Yes, I have been blamed for something I did'nt do, but I try to stay calm and nice even though it's hard. This is also diffrent from when Jason broke the pottery wheel like Justin said.

sickscoop in the house.
Q#1-Jason has had a "status", but that status was the kind from preschool when you were Miss Popular for knowing 2+2 before anyone else. Yeah, that "status". Jason is the same in a sense of intelligence. Everyone caught up with him ,then left him in the shadows. It's taking him awhile to the light,in some kind of sense.
Q#2-God, I get blamed for everything! The neighbors taught my sister a couple "big bad" words. She said them at the family reunion. Even my emo goth cousin thought it was me and should be ashamed of myself. And then I get blamed at sleepovers for everything. And then my sister...you don't want to know.

Sickscoop is out!
