Personal Connections

" If you remain calm in the midst of great chaos, it is the surest guarantee that it will eventually subside."  - Professor Savant from "The Last of the Really Great Wangdoodles" by Julie Andrews Edwards.

Wow, Lindy, Ben and Tom sure had a scare today at the end of chapter two into chapter three of part two of our read aloud.  What are your personal and/or literary connections to what we read today?

Discussion Points:

1. Personal connections to today's reading....
2. Literary connections to today's reading.......

Be sure to explain your thoughts fully, with evidence and examples.  Also, make sure you edit for capital letters and correct punctuation!

Happy Reading in your independent selections tonight!

Personal connections for me are:

One time my little cousin was visiting who was three at the time was in my moms room with my sister playing on the bed and I was in my room. I went and hid in the door way my sister carried her in a baby cradle into the other room and I jumped out and scared them. My sister dropped my cousin on the ground and I was cracking up.

Literary connections for me are:

One books that related too me are The Magic Tree house series because they always travel into a new world in every book. I don't have any other ones because I don't really read fiction books.

Can't wait to read more!!!!!

I have freaked myself out trying to play Slenderman outside. It relates to how they got scared of the side-winders.
In the book I'm reading there has been a warning of the pages of the mysterious sleep-plant (sort of like the Prock). The gang of childern get scared even worse than Tom, Ben, and Lindy, they are nearly killed! This book is the Perilous Journey.

Hi Mrs.S
My connection would be about when Lindy went to Wangdoodle land and was captured. The proffesor and the two brothers were scared because they didn't now what was going to happen to her. A personal connection to that would probably be when my friends and I were outside in the snow at night. All of a sudden the light went out and we were scared. We were scared because we had just gone down a hill that went almost strait down. We couldn't see where the sled was taking us and we thought we were gonna crash.
A literary connection would be when we saw the movie The Lorax last year. I say this because in the movie it took you to a mystical land with creaters like the Prime Minister, and a lot of others. The movie reminds me of the whole book because of all the fantasy stuff going on in the it.

Hello Mrs. Simonds,

One time when I got really scared was when I was going to brush my teeth, and my brother jumped out of a corner. I started to scream and it took me a while to realize that it was my brother, not a stalker.

A text connection is a book called Nancy Drew and the mystery at Red gate Farm about a girl who goes to a farm, and there are strange phantom horse and creepy masked faces. It probably would not scare me now, but at the it did.

Hi Mrs. Simonds,
Once I was playing hide and seek,and me and my friend hid behind the door. My other friend was the seeker. She opened the door and I screamed a little scream. Then she started screaming at the top of her lungs, she was so scared.
Also once I was at Animal Kingdom in Florida and we went on a roller coaster. On the ride the tracks ended and you went backwards I didn't know that I was the only one screaming until the ride stopped to go backwards. I was so scared.
Also in the book hatchet the kid on the island got really scared because there was a moose in the water and he thought it was going to run after h. So he hid .

Personal connections: I have gotten scared because in Skeleton Creek they showed a creepy video. I also got scared when my brother, Sam came out of nowhere when I was at the top steps of my stairs. I also have many more.

Literary Connections: I haven't really read books like this,but I have read a couple books when there are people who get scared.I have seen a movie when some kids travel to a different world though.

Hi Mrs. Simonds,
In the book A WRINKLE IN TIME, the father gets stuck in another world. This reminds me of THE LAST OF THE REALLY GREAT WHANGDOODLES, because the are both in different worlds. I have read all the books in the wrinkle in time series except two. There are six books. I love the A WRINKLE IN TIME, and THE LAST OF THE REALLY GREAT WHANGDOODLES. They both are stuck in different worlds, in one book the father is captured and in the other Lindy.

I don't really have personal connections with this chapter. Nothing I have been through was scary.

LOVE THIS BOOK !!!
~~~ Lucy :-)
Paul,
How did you freak your self out trying to play Slenderman? How do you even play Slenderman? I agree with you of how freaked out they saw the side-winders especially Lindy. Lindy tends to get scared a lot in the book. So far my favorite part of the book is when they go on the Jolly boat. What is your favorite part of the book (even though you hate it)?
Your story about your cousin and sister is really funny and interesting. I would be cracking up to!! But at the same time I feel kind of bad for your cousin.
I think that the magic tree house books are like this book too. I read lots of fiction books though.
I also can't wait to read more!!!!
Dear Mrs. Simonds,
When I was going to the bathroom I thought my brother was asleep. When I walked over the stairs and was going to walk down the hallway into my room... "BOOOOOOO!!!!" My brother screamed. 'AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!" I screamed. My brother then fell on the floor and started cracking up.
One book tat I have read that is connected to the boo we are reading is Narnia because they travel to a different world, but do not use their imagination.
Dear Mrs. Simonds,
1.My Personal Connection is onetime on Halloween I went to a house and then somebody through open the door. He didn't say a word. The only words he said was "open your bags". It scared me so much I started to cry. This relates to the book because when they see the Side-Winders they all get scared.
2. My Literary Connection would be in the movie,Narnia they go through a closet and end up in a place called Narnia. This relates to the book because when Lindy, her two brothers and Professor Savant go to a magical place too, it's called Wangdoodle Land.
Hey Josh here,
#1. I used to (and on occation still do) hide in my sisters closet and jump out at her and it is so fun when she screams. One time me and my sister ganged up on her so I hid in my sisters clothes basket and my other sister was in her closet and jumped out and she almost peed her pants!!!! I know right. #2. A book that sort of relates to this is Charlie Bone Castle of Mirrors because Charlie and Billy Raven must look in a mirror and go to the past to solve a big problamo. bye,bye. TEHEHE!>:)
Literary connections are:
I haven't really read any scary books but I have watched a couple scary movies.
Dear Mrs. Simonds and Paul,
One time I played slender man on the computer and it scared the pants of me. I just can not find a way to put it on my computer. The book "The Perilous Journey" was my bros favorite book. I liked how you related stuff to the book. You did it very well. You have some very great connections too.
To Emma, (and all you other children).
To play Slenderman you either: A:Download it on the PC. B: You bring your PC outside in the middle of the woods at Nighttime. Lastly, you dress in dark clothes and stalk your friends in the woods.
My favorite part of this book is when Prof. Savant can't go any farther (spoilers).
Thank you all for the replys, to download Slenderman, type SLENDER GAME. Goodbye.
