chapter 12, Three Cups of Tea

Chapter 12 is titled "Haji Ali's Lesson".  Why do you think Greg chose to name the chapter that?

When Greg arrives at the village, he find the women of Korphe traveling over the bridge....where were they going?  How does the bridge effect their lives in a different way than the men's?

How would you describe the people of Korphe?  In other words, in what ways does their culture/way of life/values compare with ours?

Dear room 2308er's

I'm not so shure why that chapter is called that maybe he will learn a lesson. The bridge helps the woman by getting across and that way they don't have to walk on rocks. The people in Korphe seem nice to let a strange man sleep at there village. We have a teacher monday through friday and they get a teacher 3 days a week with a teacher. We dont sit on the ground and do classes. Were are lucky to have a school and they will have one soon well in the book, they already do have one.

hello
I think that the brige afects the women of corfe differently because before I think that the women were afraid to go across the old cable cart.I think that chapter 12 is called Haji Alis Lesson because well acually I dont know why I dident think about that till now.The way of life is a lote different because when the people of corfa get married they have to give the father of that bride gifts such as goats and flour. Also they always drink tea and once they have drinked many cups of tea that person becoms part of the family. They speak a different language. They also were dofferent cloths probably.

I think the people of Korphe are more... agrarian. I say that because their not like sucked into TV all day or on the the computer. Instead they try to do school work without any sort of adult (or any work). I think the chapter is called Haji Ali's lesson because of the "lesson" he told Greg. The lesson is "slow down, make building relationships just as important as building projects. From *Ben* ˆ_ˆ

Hey!
I can say one thing I'm kind of confused. I'm really kind of confused of whats going on. Some the parts are all just a blur. I do know about the Korphe people though.
The people of Korphe seem very loving. Like they want to be nice to everyone. It seems like they don't want to hurt anything and there very celebraty like they like to celebrate stuff in ways we don't. It seems like there poor like they don't have much money to buy things. When greg said when he arrived they had a BIG feast and that it must have costed them a lot of money. I also think that there always happy when somebody accomplished something. Like when Greg got married the guy who was sitting on the roof with him was very happy! (I don't know what his name is.)

Hello Room 2308!
I remember that in the book it said that the women were regularly traveling over to meet family in other villages. The bridge seems to effect their lives in a different way because it means that they get to see family in other villages like every week. When they didn't have the bridge they couldn't see their family every week.
The people of Korfe seem to be very traditional with their ways of life. Normally we wouldn't have big like celebration when we finish something like a bridge. Bridges are something that we fix, build, and see a lot. Also when people get married the people of Korfe have a very different culture from us. When our people get married it is entirely different than what the people of Korfe do. Don't when the people Korfe get married the Father of the bride give the "soon to be" husband deer meat or something???????
Greg might have chosen the name "Haji Ali's lesson" maybe because Haji Ali learns to not do something or not to betray someone.
I can't wait until we learn more on the story.☺☀♡❤
Happy Belated Valentine's Day!!!!!❤☆

Hi!
I'm not exactly sure why. Well a bridge will help so the people don't have to worry about falling in water or rocks.
I would say they are very kind like Greg and they show that when they see a nice person like Greg who doesn't have a place to live they let him stay. So I would say they are not afraid. I think they are nicer and more giving then us. They seem very poor and naturous and I thimnk Greg is very nice for helping them I mean they spend about $2 a day for a teacher to come that is about $730 a year!

Hi

I'm not sure about why it's called that but I think he learned a lesson. I think that the woman were going to the village or just looking at the sights of the bridge. I think that the bridge effected the woman more then men because the woman look at it as a amazing thing that the men don't see as all that great. I would describe the people of Korfe hard working and not all that wealthy. In comparison they build things and help each other. There's not alot that is in comparison about Korfe and America.

Hi room 20308ers!!:)
I'm sure why Greg chose that name for a chapter. Maybe it's harder for the women to get across by a boat or something. For men it's easyer. But still, a bridge is easyer. I guess they're sort of poor in ways. They don't everything americans ahve or people. But at least they have some things. They are pretty lucky to be the ones with the school.

Hey Mrs.Simonds, I think the chapter is called "Haji Ali's Lesson" because Haji Ali teaches Greg that he needs to relax and also he needs to except who the Korphe people are. Haji Ali also taught Greg what the first, second and third cup of tea all mean. If I remember correctly the women were going on the bridge to see there family. I think the people of Korphe are very nice and actcept what they have. I think we have better values then Korphe in a way. Like we have a school and they don't (yet) and all the people of Korphe agree on the same things and we don't. love, Monkey101 a.k.a Julia.H

Hey Mrs.S
I think this a great book, but I would be grateful if we could go over what we read after we read it. I don't understand the first two questions so I'm going to start with the other questions and I will answer the other questions later. The bridge effects the mens life more then the womens because the men have to go out more and hunt and the women do the work in the house. They don't cross over the bridge as much and now that I think about it, the women were crossing the bridge probably to gather water for the tea they have and other things. I would describe the people of Korphe as very friendly as we know so far. In Korphe they have do pay a dowery when a woman and a man get married and in our culture we don't. In Korphe they don't have a lot of money and in our country we have at least more money than we think.

Dear Room 2308,

I think that the reason Greg named the chapter "Haji Ali's Lesson" is because Haji told Greg that he was getting on the people's nerves and because he taught them about "Three Cups Of Tea"! The women were traveling over the bridge to go see their families in other villages. I think that the bridge affected the women more than the men because it made the women feel more confident because then they could make a trip to their families in other villages that is usually a week long trip. They can now be there in a couple of hours and visit alot more(every Friday!). I would describe their village as very pacient. I think that because they were not all that upset when Greg had to go back and it would delay the school longer!

Hello my fellow classmates and teacher!
I like the book so far. I think the people of Korphe are very nice because they let some stranger stay in their houses. I think that the people are very brave because they are not afraid that Greg could come in with a gun and shoot them. I think they think he is very nice. Also I think there might be a bigger problem like the people of Korphe might make him build lots of things for them but I'm pretty sure that is not going to happen.
Love,
Fuzzel!!!!!!!:^) <-

Hello room 2308ers!!:)
I don't know why it is any different for the men to cross the bridge than the women. Both of them would very happy to be able to cross safely. The people of Korphe seem very nice and serious about everything, like how every person they meet they get to know them."Slow down and make building relationships."
It was very mean for the five men to come and demand their rams, their most prized possession. They thought o their rams as family. I wounder why they let them do that? Well the book did say they would beat people with clubs. He also forbid them not to finish the school."We will finish the school whether you forbid it or not!"Greg said.

I think that greg called it that because he leands a lessan. the woman are going to the near by villiges. It efets there live more than the men because they never went there. And that they can not walk acros on rock. The pepele of korphe are a nice group. from michael lannon.

Hi it's Tom. I really don't know why the chapter was named "Haji Ali's lesson". The women were going to visit there friends and family. The bridge efected the women more than the men because the women were able to go visit family more often.I would describe the people of Korphe as sweet, kind and helpful. the people of Korphe never break there promises. bye bye

I think the bridge helps the people of korfe because if family members live some where they can go there.I think that greg is a really nice guy because he's a really nice for doing this stuff for them.I don't know why the chapter is called Haji alis lesson and I want to know why.i realized we are waaay different because the boys in the book were sad because they lost there prized rams and the girls have to were aburkas.

I agree with alive i really don't know whey the chapter is called that.I think that is strange to let a strange man sleep in the village and teach kids for three days.I agree again that we are lucky to have a school because some kids don't and were lucky to have knowledge. And the way girls have knowledge.

Hey!
Well I would l agree with you julia on how the women's
lives are different because there not scared to cross the bridge! I also agree with you on how I didn't really think about chapter 12- Haji Ali's lesson. It's hard to remember what we are at in the book. Greg just got a new house right! I'm still surprised that Greg got married 6 days after he met Tara. I know if I were Tara I would not have married him right away!

Hi it's Tom. I have answered all of the questions so i'm going to talk about a book that I just started to read. It is called The Red Pyramid by Rick Riordan. I think Neill did his book talk on it. So far it is really good there is a lot of action in the book. This book is also a new genre for me, Fantasy. The first page hooked me because it was so exciting and mysterious.
