Second Time Around

Today we read "Voices In The Park"  by Anthony Browne.  You all agreed that you noticed much more and "got it" a lot better after re-reading it.
I love this book so much, and every time I read it with a different class I notice new things.  Often, we need to re-read books for clarity or to get more out of it. That is something that good readers do.

1.   Have you ever re-read a book and noticed things that you had not noticed the first time around?  Tell us about it; when you read it the first time, when you re-read it and why it might have been different.
Sometimes we may not be mature enough to understand certain parts of a story we are reading.  Sometimes we may not be concentrating when we are reading because we are distracted by something else going on in our lives.  Sometimes we just missed something the first time around.

2.  Tell me about some things that you noticed today when we read "Voices" again that you did not catch on Friday.  What new insights did you have into the story today?  How important were the pictures to Mr. Browne's story?  Tell me why you think that way and give examples.

Happy Reading and Blogging....don't forget to use your blog page to keep track of your posts this week and the requirements!

Hi, it's Ben. On friday I didn't notice the bushes that were fruits. Another thing I didn't notice was, at the end, when they were in the gazebo, that above it's roof was night time and below it was all light. I think Anthony Brown didn't try to make these obvious, but made them noticeable so that you could relate to how the character's.

Room 2308er's,

I think that the first time we read the book on friday it was confusing. Today when we read the book it was less confusing. I noticed that the tree in the backround was on fire and the garilla had hummen arms. I liked that the to dogs tails were diffrent. Now I understand the book more that we read it again.....(^:

Hey Mrs. Simonds
I don't think I have ever Re-Read a book. Except I feel like I know exactly what you are trying to say. I can't tell you how I thought it was diffrrent because I haven't re-read a book. In the book "Voices" that we re-read today I actually understood the book because on Friday I didn't even get the book. I think I didn't get the book because I didn't know what I was looking for in the book. Some things I noticed in the book "voices" that it's all the same story , but told from different points of view and I think that's the main point of the story. I thought about how the two stories are the same and as I said before the stories are just told from different points of view. The pictures were pretty important because it told you how the whole story comes together and how every voice comes together and are simaliar. The pictures give examples by the bright or gloomy colors.

Hello everyone!
I have definately re-read a book before. One book I have re-read was Odd Velvet. One thing that I noticed the second time was that everyone is dressed in the same way, like all the cloths look kind of warn out. Another thing that I noticed the second time was that her smile is connected to her glasses or looks it. The last thing I remember noticing was that all the girls had the same doll only with a different facial expression. Well the pictures in Mr. Browne's story were very important because the gave you hints to all your questions. I was at band on Friday during reading so I've only read it once. One thing I noticed was inside the gazebo it was day time and outside it was night time. One of my insights was it was cool how each "voice" was in the same day, but from a different persons point of view.

well no i can't remember any books that i noticed something differrent the second time i read it. I noticed the trees where almost different on each page. Also that on the front page it was bacicly the same on each side. My insight today was that on the out side of where the main character is it was bright were they where happy and dark if they where mad. Well i kinda tould you why the pictures were inportant but i will say it agian. They were important because they tell you how the character feels.

Hello room 2308!!!!!!
I tend to re-read a lot of books and notice that in the books, I notice a lot of different things each time. For example: When I read Harry Potter for the 1,2,3,4,5,6,and,7 time I noticed something different each and every time. Like when I read number 6 the first time it was really confusing. When I read it for the 2 and 3 time it made more sense. What I noticed in the story today was the font. I noticed that it changed depending on the emotion. Like if the point of view person was happy, the font was VERY, VERY, BIG! And if it was sad it was very small.I noticed why the pictures were important because it showed their emotions. Like when the two gorilla kids met, on the boy's side it was very dark and depressing and then on the girl's side it was very light and joyful and not depressing.

Hi Mrs.Simonds, have only re-read one book before called "Wayside School" I also understood the book way I the second time I read it. Each chapter is about a different person. The first time I read it I just read each chapter and sorta forgot about it. But the second time I read it I realy understood everybody and saw everybodys personalliy come into each chapter. I LOVED the book "Vocies In The park" when I really undestood it. I did ot notice anything the first tiime we read it. But the second time you stared to point things out so I really had my eyes open. After we read the book I took a look at it close up and I noticed even more things!!!!!!! I really like "Voices in the park" I wonder what other books he has written. from monkey101 a.k.a Julia.H.

HI MRS.SIMONDS!
I have re-read alot of books but I also usually re-read alot of pages incase I have missed something. My teacher in third grade read us POPPY and I didn't catch all of the sentces or didn't understand all the words so I read it myself and noticed alot more detail.
On Friday I didn't noticed that the trees were fruits, on one page two paintings were broken and the heart was broken and it was all gloomy. But a few pages later the paintings came to life and they were happy and the heart was put back together also it was all bright colors and superman on the building.I also noticed alot more. But I don't have enough room on this page. BYE!BYE! Love Lauren/FUZZEL C U 2MORROW :]

Hi
When we raed the book the first time I didn't really understand the book and notice much. But the second time our class read the book I noticed alote more, like when the girl asked the boy if he wanted to go on the slide, the girls side was sunny and nice were the boys side was all gloomy and dark.It kindove gave an examples of diffrent pints of views.I also didn't realize the pichures and how detaled they were. I have never re-read a book but I have wached a movie and read the book also.

I think the reading was way to rushed on Friday. I did not see haf as much the first time as I did the second. I really liked the pictures, especially the one where half the sky is night and half is day. I also liked how the illustrator used the pictures to express the characters emotions. I think I will read it again sometime.

Yo Waz-Up room 2308ers,

When we read the book the second time I noticed that the pictures and the background to me looked like they where based on the character's mood! When he sad guy was telling his point of view it was all sad and gloomy, but when the happy young kid told it the background was up-beat and happy! Also I noticed about that, is when the kids and dogs where playing in the Gazebo it was dark out and inside it was like day! I think that symbolized that even though there are troubles it the world when they play together the can forget all the troubles of the world! I think it was a very good book and that the pictures told a lot about the story!

Hello room 2308

Before when that other guy read the book he didn't tell us what the book ment or the hidden pictures. My favorite hidden picture was the king kong or super hero on the building. Like Ben I didn't think Anthony Brown didn't want it to be obvious. I didn't really get why the gorilla had human arms. The only time I have re-read a book was a spot the differences.

Hey Julia.H.
I have read "Wayside School" before. That is such a good book. Except when I read that book I understood it the first time. I think I understood it because my teacher read it as a read aloud. I also agree with you about "Voices in the Park" because the first time we read it I didn't exactly get the point of the book and then the second time we read it I really understood the book. So I totally agree with you!!!!

Hi it's ben.ˆ_ˆ I agree with Diana. You have to read the whole series of Harry Potter in order to under stand everything. The same thing happens with different series I've read. Others were almost a separate story with each book( but the same or added characters of course).

Hi its Tom. I did not not notice that the picture with the gazebo had night and day on it. I also didn't notice the people were gorillas with human arms. I also didn't noticed that some of the bushes in the background had some gorilla faces. I also did not notice there was super man on a building. the illustrations in the book were very very detailed.

Hello!!!!!!

After I thought about it another reason why I re-read a book is because I don't get a word or a sentence.
