Hello Readers!
Did you enjoy "Edward and the Pirates" today? I love to read stories about other readers, especially when they use their imaginations and show good reading practices!
We talked about the "shape" of stories, or, as Jayme put it, "story maps". In class we have talked about Hero Cycles and Bell Curves.
Here are today's discussion points:
1. What is your favorite picture book? If you are like me and can't pick just one, pick one that you like a lot.
2. Does it fit either of the "shapes" that we have talked about in class? Tell me which one and how it fits. If it does not, what does the shape of that story seem to be?

Hello!
My favorite picture book is probably Odd Velvet. I would say that it is kind of a bell curve, but it started out with everyone thinking Velvet was odd. Then she had the best drawing and invited everyone to her birthday party. and at the end everyone likes her. So it's like everyone hates her, then people start to like her and the turning point is when they like her.

dear Mrs. Simonds,
I like the book called Tacky The Penguin. It is about a bird named Tacky and his perfect companions. I think it has a Bell Curve . At the bottom it tacks about how Tacky is different from the others. At the top three hunters come and say they are going to try to catch the penguins and sell them.I think is starts to go down when Tacky tricks the hunters into thinking that the perfect penguins don't live there by being himself, singing his funny songs, doing his splashy cannonballs, and greeting them with a hard slap on the back and a "What's Up?!?!?!?!" In the end the other penguins realize that tacky is perfect, in his one way!

hello room 2308ers!!!!!well i dont know my current favorite picture book but when I was little one of my favorite books was Madeline.
2.I think it is Bell Curves. IN the beginning it's just telling about her and then the the top of the Bell Curve is when she get's sick. then it goes back down and her friends visit her in the hospital.

Leah! :)
my favorite picture book is "The Marshmallow Incident"
i think that the shape is sort of goes like a hill first then when it gets to the top it stays there and then goes down and the problem is resolved.
the story is about two towns left and right. they have a dotted line that no one can cross. then someone ran and tripped and crossed the line. then there was war. then they resolved it by getting rid of it. and then they combined the 2 towns.

Hey room 2308er's
my favorite picture book is or one that I really liked when I was little was "The Little Mouse and the Red Ripe Straberry". Which is about a mouse who finds a red ripe straberryand then he got warned by the auther that there was a bear that liked red ripe straberrys and then the auther fooled the mouse to share the straberry with him. So I think that the book is a book that goes up and stays up because the mouse learns a lesson and thats not always a good thing, but in this case it is.

Hi it's Ben. My favorite picture book is Busy Night. I think this story is like a stair case. It's about a boy who falls asleep and then all these things that are known to come out at night come into his room, one by one like the tooth fairy, and the sandman, and ghosts, even santa claus, and a few more things and they all start arguing about who should leave. And then at one point the boy wakes up from all the racket and yells at them that he was trying to get some sleep, not even caring who/what was in his room.(the drop to the staircase) Then they all leave together to go to another person's house.
Hey its Tom. My favorite picture book is Casey At The Bat. I think this story follows the path of a bell curve. The reason I think that is because it starts out kind of dull. Then the coach puts Casey in to bat. Casey goes to bat and he ignores the pitch and he does it for the next pitch too. Then with two strikes he swings with all his might. Then he... struck out.
Hi,
Samantha I saw your post and I saw that your favorite picture book is "Tacky the Peguin". I don't know if you saw my favorite picture book, but it was "The Little Mouse and the Red Ripe Strawberry". I also really liked "Tacky the Peguin" Because of Tacky's individuality. I do like my book, but you made me remember that "Tacky The Peguin" is a great book. See you in school tomorrow.

Georgieena
