My group siad that Y'tin would probably be the protangonist. Then we said that the North Vintemese
would be the protanginist. Mrs.Simonds are we going to learn about other words like antagonist and protangonists?? We also said that the North Vietimese invading their village would probably be the central tension. The posible themes we said were being different and being a elphant trainer.

I am reading All The Broken Pieces.
The protagonist is Matt. The Antagonist is Rob. The central tension is the memories of Vietnam. One possible theme is that Matt has gone through so much more than the average kid.
{I can't remember if the themes are just for the books we are reading in our group or for all the book groups.}

My group agreed that the protagonist is Georgie from The Thing About Georgie. There are, in my opinion, 3 antagonists: Jeanie the Meanie, Baby Godzilla, and Russ. Not everyone in my group agreed about Russ, but I think he is an antagonist. We agreed that the central tension was that Georgie was REALLY short and that was hard for Georgie. The possible theme for Jeanie was mean. The possible theme for Georgie was dwarf. The possible theme for Andy ( another character in the book) was Italian. There were a lot more characters, but I don't have time to list them all. I think a lot of people in our class would like The Thing About Georgie. It is a GREAT book. Hope you like your books!!! Adios for now!!!

In my group we are still tring to figure out the antagonist (we are reading "Trouble"). There is a boy named Chay that ran over Henry's brother (Henry is the main character) and that caused all the problems. We think that he is the antagonist but we read the inside cover and it said that Henry and Chay go off together to climb a mountain. We are not sure what will happen in the rest of the book so we are asuming that Chay is the antagonist in our book so far (WARNING: it could change). We are 99.9% sure that Henry is the protagonist.
Our group is doing good together (Emma, Cam, and I).

I completely agree with what my group and I chose for the anwsers there. I totally think that the antagonist is the government because in the whole book Moon is saying that his father and him have been hiding from the law their WHOLE life in the woods. They say, "The government never did anything for us so we won't do anything for them. The protagonist is without a doubt Moon because the whole story circles around him. He's the hero of the story! Also, it's first person perspective and it's him so, pretty easy.
The central tension is everybody slowing him down to get to Alaska. He's got beaten up by a police officer, gone to jail and is all over the television. Kind of hard to blend in. I think another possible theme for this book is survival. Not just through the wilderness but life, friendship, heroism...... All that stuff.

Well I thought that at the beginning when Louis joined the army that he was not brave, but then he saved a person from a fire even though that person was a enemy and then I knew that Louis was brave after all. Then in the book group I realized that even though Louis was scared in battle he was still able to shoot some people. When we were discussing about the book we realized that the book was talking about tons of people and different places in the book.I also realized in our discussion that an antagonist or protagonist can be a person or a thing. Then in the book I have realized that Louis has made new friends in the book.

In my group ( Trouble ) we decided that Henry, the main character, is the protagonist. We also decided that Chay was the antagonist. Chay is the one that hit Franklin. The central tension is definitely Franklin getting hit by the car. Almost everything they do is about him. They talk about him, they went to court to get the guy that hit him with the car punished, etc. The themes my group and I came up with are being different and getting hurt.

Well to start... Sanders and the law are the antagonists. Please note that Moon(the protagonist attacked a store onwer and a Policeman(Sanders). Alabama Moon's central tension is the law is after him. He was 10 when his dad died. He escaped juvi with some other prisoners. Well that's a mouthfull. Some possible themes are... survival and sadness*. I think that it went well until I came up with an idea that....well that's off topic. Henro the actor

* We all didn't agree on on it.

We are reading A Million Shades of Gray. I am on Chapter 13 It is a pretty good book. The Protagonist is Y'tin he is about my age and is an elephant tamer. The antagonist is the North Vietnamese army. He is a hostage who escapes and finds his friends. There is a lot of fighting that makes it interesting.

My group was disscussing possible themes and we could not think of that many. We only got two or three (counting the "different" theme). We thought about a theme on getting hurt because Henry (the main characther) has a brother that was in an accident and lost his arm. The rest of the characters that got hurt too because Henry and his family were sad that Franklin lost his arm and that boy chay that did it was hurt because he caused the accident.
My group worked really well in that part. We all added on to each others ideas and thought of our own ideas. It was fun!!!

In my book "March Towards the Thunder", the protagonist is Louis and the north. The antagonist is the north side. The central tension is definitely that hes in the Civil war!! That was kind of obvious!!! Duh!!! There wasn't any possible themes yet that I thought of. So that was really the whole discussion was about really. Not much but it was good.

Everyone in my group agreed on everything! I think discussing the books in class is fun! I love Firegirl, so that makes it even better! I'm glad it was easy to decide on antagonist, protagonist etc. Here were our results:

Protagonist: Tom
We picked Tom because he is the main character and he is very nice.

Antagonist: Jeff
We picked Jeff as the antagonist because he is mean to Tom and Jessica.

Central Tension: Jessica looks scary from her burns and Tom has to go to her house.
We picked this because when Tom went to Jessica's house, it started a lot of his troubles. It made Tom and Jeff get in a fight, and it made Tom think about Jessica a lot.

Possible Themes: Being Different
We picked this because the theme of all the books was being different, and because Jessica is very different.

P.S. Everyone in our class should read Firegirl, its so good!

My group had the same difficulties as Katherine's group had. We had a theme, but it was more a problem than a theme. Our first theme was something like seeing things from Georgie's point of view. My group either finished or is almost finished with The Thing About Georgie. Our group also had to change our central tension. Before it was "Georgie is a dwarf". That was more of a fact than a problem, though. We actually had a lot of antagonists, though. The protagonist and antagonist part was easy for my group. I like over-lapping reading and writing; it gives me more reading time!!! Adios for now!!!

I am reading The March Toward Thunder. The main Protagonists are Louis and Sergent Flynn.
Their aren't really too many Antagonists. The main one is the Rebels. Louis somehow makes friends with enemies. He almost got killed but since he helped a Rebels brother, he didn't get killed. Louis has done a lot of weird stuff but it has kind of helped him and his team.
The Central Tension is that he is in the Civil War. We picked that because he sometimes has trouble. He got promoted leader in a way because hes an Indian and has good eyes and ears.
The theme would definitely be being different. He is an Indian in the american Army. Hes also different because he has such good eyes and ears.

I've just finished reading A Million Shades of Gray. It was about a boy who is a elephant trainer. My group and I thought that the protagonist was Y'Tin. The antagonist was definitely the North Vietnamese Army or the NVA for short. This book was definitely my favorite of the ones we have read together. Possible themes might have been courage, fairness, survival and that's probably about it.

Sorry. Last time I did topics instead of themes. A theme could be courage. Throughout the story Matt has to face courage. An example is when the bully Rob is trying to find equipment blind folded, and he is not accepting Matt's help because Rob's brother died in the Vietnamese war and Matt is Vietnamese. Matt had to be courageous and tell him what happened to his brother. That took courage!

My group had Henry as the protagonist from Trouble. We also said that Chay was the antagoinst. Where we are right now, (I'm done with the book) I would say that Louisa is the antagonist. Chay got blamed for killing Franklin because he didn't want Louisa to get into any trouble with the law. Chay and Louisa liked each other so that's why Chay took the blame. The central tension is Henry and his family trying to deal with Franklin getting hurt and dying. Possible themes could be racism and getting hurt. Also this is a really good book.

I am reading the Thing About Georgie. In my group we said that the Protagonist is Georgie because The book is telling us about his problems and his life. We also said that the antagonist is a few people Jeanie and Baby Godzilla (the baby), because the baby causes Georgie to get mad because he thinks the baby will get bigger than him right away. We thought the central tension was, well I forget. I remember the possible themes though they were, Trust and Honesty.

Today I just finished Alabama Moon and I loved it. It kind of made me change my idea of the answers here. I think now, a character in the book, Hal, is a protagonist. He's not the number one protagonist, but he's in the top five.
Another possible theme for this book is friendship and is definately repeated over and over in the book. There are so many friendships I can barely count. My group and I have not completely agreed on this, but we think that it's possible. First friendship, Pap and Moon. The father, son relationship. Pap doesn't really baby Moon, I think he accepts too much from him. They're not the huggy type but they are definately friends. Well, that's one example.

BLOG 2:
I already did this blog, so I'm doing it on my book. The protagonist is Tintin, captin Haddock, snowy the dog and Thompson and Thomson. Well, there's real antagonist except the outlaws. The central tension is every badguy trys to kill him. There are no themes and trust me, there's no book like it! Henro the camper

I noticed that in groups you don't need to agree on everything. The reason is that it is okay to have your own opinion on things not everyone has the same mind.
Example: Bob likes pie and Joe hates pie. just because Bob likes pie doesn's mean that his opinion on food is bad and Joe's is good. It is the same thing with the reading groups.

Our group we discussed the book A million shades of gray. Everyone likes book. We have now finished the book. A theme for the book is war and survival. Y'tin hunts for food he takes a bath in the river and has a shawl from his Mom to stay warm. Another theme could be bravery Y'tin is very brave. He is my age and he lives by himself in the wild and trains an elephant. I liked this book. Noah Mullet Man

I was thinking in class today that maybe, just maybe, courage could be another possible theme. It all makes sense because most kids don't have the courage to escape a juvenile detention center (that's what my mom said to call it). He has the courage to stand up to all the people that are just so scary. Moon just sucks it up, and faces his fears. I wish I could be more like Moon...... Anyways, I'm going to be ready if we have to do another one of those pages about another theme that is repeated on the books that we are reading in the groups. I'm not sure but I think that my group might have done this theme for the page so if you did, did you agree with my reasons Henry and Alex C.?
I really enjoyed doing book groups because I loved discussing the book. I love agreeing, disagreeing and --all that stuff.

Oh My Gosh!! I finally got done with the March Toward the Thunder. By the way this doesn't really have anything to do with the question. But it kind of has to do with how I thought the Book was O.K. It took about 30 chapters to get REALLY good. I probably just didn't like it because its a 3rd Person Book. I usually only read 1st person books. i think they're more descriptive and you don't have to read slow, or stop and think about the picture for a while. At chapter the book was good because you could understand it. You knew where they were and what they were doing. In other chapters you didn't know where the characters were because they were always marching. But overall the book got good towards the middle.

Mrs. Simonds for this blog could I do it on my independent book? I'm going to do it, I hope you won't get mad at me :[. I going to do it on my book Catching Fire. The protagonist is Katniss and the antagonist is probably President Snow. The central tension is probably Katniss having to go back to the Hungar Games. Possible themes could be hatered, getting beat up, and having to act. When I say having to act I mean pretending to feel a way when you don't really feel that way. [Does that even make sence?]I thought it could be hatered because every one in the book hated the Capital. I thought it could be getting beat up because someone in the story is always getting beat up by the Peacekeepers. I thought it could be having to act because Katniss is always having to act like she really loves Peeta. 0.Cam + 0.Cam = Cam

In our book The Thing About Georgie it was hard to think of the antagonist because there was like, 5! so I put all of them down. In our discussion we also disagreed on a lot of the antagonists so I think we put one of each of ours Im not sure. The protagonist was obvious: Georgie. The central tension was Georgie getting picked on because he is a dwarf but in the end he doesn't get picked on as much. The possible themes in our book were.... well we had 2, Trust and Honesty I think they are kind of the same thing but not totally. so BYE!

Rajon Rondo
P.S There was a car crash on southside we live off of southside and it was with a kid in high school and he knocked into a telaphone pole and it fell over and we lost power and we could hear the the big boom when he ran into but he didn't get hurt at all!

My group has come up with more themes! We have all these:

Looks don't matter

Being Different

Being Courageous

Friendship

We have those 4! I think writing individually then sharing our thoughts really helped a lot. Our group wrote very similar things when we wrote individually.
